Seeing that trying to build rapport wasn’t working, Cecile deliberately asked, “By the way, I heard you slit your wrist at the school gate the other day. What was that about?”
As she spoke, she even reached out and lifted Elaine’s injured hand.
Elaine looked at her wrist, her expression growing sorrowful. “The doctor told me I can’t let my emotions get too intense. My health isn’t good. That day… it was something personal. I couldn’t control myself. I hope I didn’t scare you.”
By now, quite a few people knew about Elaine slitting her wrist at the gate of Claire University.
All they knew was that it seemed like the real girlfriend caught the mistress.
But no one actually knew the full story.
Elaine turned her gaze toward Eliza and said, “Ms. Eliza, I know I’m not as noble as you. I also know the Sue family holds tremendous power overseas. I only have Nolan left in this world. That day… I’m really sorry.”
That was what Elaine said, but Eliza didn’t see even a trace of guilt in her eyes.
From the moment she stepped into the classroom, Elaine had been putting on a show for the crowd.
Sure enough, the classmates around them now wore the expressions of spectators watching drama unfold, clearly eager to find out what had really happened that day.

Everyone in the classroom clearly knew things weren’t that simple, but they still pretended otherwise right. in front of Eliza and Elaine.
That day when Nolan transferred in, it was obvious he’d come for Eliza–and he even shouted an apology at her in front of the whole building.
They had all guessed that Elaine’s sudden appearance today was to keep an eye on her fiancé. But none of them said it aloud.
Apparently, Elaine hadn’t found out that Nolan had transferred the other day.
To be more precise, she probably had no idea that Nolan had actually come to Claire University.
The Hayes family had endless matters to handle, with no breaks all year round.
Even when Nolan was at home, he had to review stacks of company documents.
And yet he came to Claire University, wasting time.

Because Elaine was here.

But Eliza didn’t care. If she stayed in this class, she’d only further provoke Elaine’s nerves.
Sooner or later, Elaine would be having meltdowns every day.
And Eliza would be the one held responsible–maybe even see her grades affected.
Rather than let that happen, she might as well request the transfer herself.
The dean hadn’t expected Eliza to say that so abruptly.
She stood there awkwardly, unsure of how to respond.
But just then, a man’s voice came from outside the classroom.
“She’s not transferring.”
Everyone turned toward the door.
To their surprise, it was Zayden.
Since enrolling at Claire University, Zayden hadn’t even been assigned a class yet.
And now, here he was.
Zayden walked over to Eliza and grabbed her arm.
Eliza frowned and whispered, “What are you doing?”
Zayden didn’t answer her. Instead, he looked at the dean and said, “Eliza’s not transferring. Thank you.”
Given Zayden’s background, the dean had no intention of causing trouble. She simply nodded.
Not transferring was better anyway.
All this transferring back and forth–what kind of example did that set?
Zayden pushed Eliza back into her seat. A few classmates were stunned.
