When Tyson dragged Eliza into the conversation, Nolan’s gaze instantly turned frigid. “What does any of this have to do with Eliza? Keep her name out of your mouth.”
But Tyson remained composed, even more at case now that Nolan had taken the bait. “So it’s true then. Ms. Elaine wasn’t lying. If you’re willing to talk to your uncle like this over a woman, then maybe you really are unfit. Mr. Hayes, as president of Hayes Corp, you’re supposed to put the company’s future above personal whims. If you can’t, then perhaps it’s time you stepped down.”
Before the echo of Tyson’s accusation had faded, the heavy sound of synchronized footsteps filled the hall.
Nolan’s assistant stepped forward and opened the meeting room door. Outside stood Nolan’s personal security detail, their cold stares sweeping the room with icy pressure.
Not a single executive dared to breathe too loudly.
Everyone knew Nolan used to solve problems with force. He rarely wasted words when fists could speak louder.
He had toned that down after becoming head of the Hayes family–but Tyson’s mention of Eliza had clearly pushed him too far.
There could be no doubt: this was Nolan’s way of declaring open war.
“Get out.”
The single word cut through the air like a blade.
Julio frowned and stepped forward to object, but Tyson raised a hand to stop him. “Julio, Mr. Hayes is upset. Let’s give him and me some time to settle this privately.”
“Yes, sir.”
Julio turned to the room. “Apologies, everyone. Mr. Hayes and Mr. Nolan have family matters to discuss. That’s all for today. Please exit this way.”
Without hesitation, the other executives rose and hurried out. None of them wanted to stick around.
Within moments, only Tyson and Nolan remained inside.
Nolan’s guards still stood stationed outside.
Tyson took a sip of tea, unfazed. “Did you really think I came here alone?”
“Eliza has nothing to do with this” Nolan said, voice steely. “I won’t warn you again–leave her out of it.
Tyson’s expression cooled.
The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.

A slow smirk curved Tyson’s lips. “So Eliza really is your weakness. Tell me, are you truly willing to throw away your engagement to the Lynn family’s daughter for her? I’m your uncle, Nolan. I’m not trying to hurt you–but if you don’t keep Elaine in line, she might do something none of us can fix.”
“Thanks for the concern. You can go now.”
Before Tyson could respond, Nolan abruptly closed the lid on the teacup in front of him.
A subtle but unmistakable signal.
Outside, the assistant appeared at the doorway. “Mr. Hayes, this way please.
Seeing Nolan wasn’t interested in continuing the conversation, Tyson knew there was no point pushing further.
He stood and walked out without another word.
Left alone in the conference room, Nolan’s expression remained unreadable.
His assistant returned. “Mr. Hayes, what are your orders?”
“Have someone watch Eliza closely. I’m worried he’ll make a move on her.”
“Yes, sir.”
“And one more thing,” Nolan added. “Eliza doesn’t like being followed. Tell your people to keep their distance and stay hidden. If she notices them, rotate them out immediately.”
“Understood.”
The assistant left to arrange protection for Eliza.
Nolan called for his driver and had the car ready within minutes. He headed straight for home.
At the house, Elaine was in the kitchen, clearly expecting him. She’d prepared a full dinner, every carefully arranged on the table.

When she heard the sound of a car pulling up, her eyes lit up. She took off her apron, walked to the door,” and opened it with a bright smile.
“Nolan, I knew you’d come back-”
Before she could finish her sentence, Nolan’s hand shot forward and closed around her throat.
The sudden act stunned her. Elaine’s eyes went wide with fear, her whole body frozen as a suffocating pressure began to rise in her chest.
She couldn’t get a word out.
Nolan’s voice was ice–cold. “What deal did you make with Tyson? What are you planning to do to Eliza?”
“Kh–khh!”
Choking under his grip, Elaine could only cough.
