Halbert let out a cold snort. “Anyone can talk big. Where’s the action? Let me remind you only sister. Before he left, Tristan personally told me to take care of her. If anything happens to her bemaste of you, I’ll make sure you pay for it
Nolan didn’t get angry. Instead, he replied calmly, “You’re not wrong. I’ll prove myself through action. You’re her brother- of course you’d want to protect her. For that alone, I won’t make things difficult for you.”
Halbert narrowed his eyes. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing.”
“You mean to say you could make things difficult for me?”
Halbert jumped to his feet. “Nolan, don’t overestimate yourself!”
Nolan remained silent.
If it were Tristan, he might’ve shown some courtesy. But Halbert? Ronaldo? Christian? Nolan had no need to tread lightly around them.
He lifted a teacup and offered it to Halbert. “Have some tea.”
Halbert frowned. Nolan’s earlier words still lingered in his mind, and he couldn’t quite grasp what the man was really thinking.
“If you really care about Eliza, then stay away from her. I don’t want my sister caught up in any mess.”
With that, Halbert turned and left.
After he was gone, Nolan’s assistant stepped into the room. “Mr. Hayes, isn’t that Sue family heir getting a little out of line? Even if it’s for Ms. Sue, you shouldn’t have to take that kind of treatment.”
There was no real reason for Nolan to show him any respect — Halbert couldn’t threaten Nolan’s position in
any way.
“He’s Eliza’s brother,” Nolan said quietly. “Whatever he says, I’ll let it go. But if he wants me to leave her… that’s not happening.”
He set the teacup down and added, “You can go. This doesn’t concern you.”
“Mr. Hayes, um.” The assistant hesitated. Nolan frowned. “What is it?”
“Mr. Soren is here. He wants to speak with you.”

At that, Nolan’s expression cooled.
Soren never came to see him unless it was serious,

“Eliza’s not one of your business targets. You really want to drag your misfortune onto her too?”
. Soren had never liked his older brother. The two of them barely saw each other in a year.
His expression twisted with contempt. “Have you seen the headlines? Your photo with Eliza is plastered all over the front page! The media’s blown this up beyond control. Do you even realize what the internet is like? One rumor and people will drown you in spit! Why are you doing this to her? Is this how you show affection?”
Nolan had just broken off his engagement with Elaine. Now he was leaving hotels with Eliza?
That alone would be enough for gossip columns to go wild. And the public’s fury wouldn’t fall on Nolan – it’d fall on Eliza. They’d brand her a homewrecker, the shameless third party who destroyed a relationship.
Soren wouldn’t have come if it weren’t for that.
He’d hoped Nolan genuinely cared for Eliza.
But now, he wasn’t so sure.
“This is my business,” Nolan said coolly. “I won’t let Eliza get hurt. Is this why you came here?”
