Christian had originally hoped Eliza could talk Halbert down. He hadn’t expected Halbert to go this far.
“Halbert! That was out of line! She came to apologize to you sincerely, and this is what you say?”
Christian glared at him, clearly ready to give him a piece of his mind.
Halbert, on the other hand, didn’t seem bothered at all. “If it weren’t for the three of you interfering, do you really think Eliza would come apologize to me? No way. I don’t buy it.”
He shut the door right in Christian’s face, completely fed up.
Christian looked from Halbert’s closed door to Eliza’s room, where she had already gone.
For a moment, he didn’t know whose side to take.

Back in her room, Eliza found Nolan already waiting for her.
When she came in, Nolan said, “Let me guess. It didn’t work.”
“You’re spot on.”
Eliza walked over to the sofa and plopped down. “We can’t get through a conversation without arguing. He won’t listen to a word I say.”

She’d planned to ask Tristan earlier.
But Tracy’s unexpected arrival had thrown all her plans off.
“You wait here. I’ll go talk to Tristan. Those boxes must’ve arrived by now they’ve been stored.”

Eliza snuck over to Tristan’s study.

Eliza held up a finger and whispered, “Is Tristan inside?”
“Yes, but-”
But didn’t Ms. Sue just return to her room?
Why was she sneaking around again?
“As long as he’s in, that’s all I need to know. You can go.”
Eliza waved him off and slipped into the study.

Tristan was alone at his desk.
The moment she entered, he said coolly, “Alright, what did you come back for?”
He hadn’t brought it up during lunch, but that didn’t mean he didn’t know.
He was certain Eliza hadn’t returned just to introduce Nolan.
Eliza was a little surprised that he saw through her so quickly.
“You know why I came?”
“No. But I can guess. Go ahead and say it.”
He gave her the chance to explain herself.
Eliza hesitated a moment, then said, “I want to look through my mother’s boxes. Her belongings.”
“That’s all?”
“Yes. That’s it.”
“Alright.”
Tristan stood, opened a drawer, and pulled out a key that looked like it had been kept for a long time.
Then he walked out of the study.
Eliza was surprised.
It was just a key – but Tristan had guarded it so carefully.
Then again, it made sense.
These were Emilia’s things, everything her mother had left behind.
They were worth billions. If it were her, she’d probably have stored it all in a massive vault too.

“This way.”
Tristan led her to a room that clearly hadn’t been opened in a long time.
The key wasn’t for a vault – it was for the door.
Tristan unlocked it and pushed it open.
When Eliza stepped inside, she saw the boxes containing her mother’s belongings arranged neatly on the floor.
Everything in the room carried traces of her mother’s life.
“Pick through them as you like. I’ll have someone bring Nolan over. You two will move faster working together.”
Hearing that, Eliza realized Tristan already knew what she was trying to do.
“Tristan… you knew?”
“Whatever you’re doing, I support you.”
He gently patted her head.
Then he turned and left the room.
Eliza looked around at the space where her mother had once lived. A strange sense of familiarity washed over her.
Before long, Nolan appeared at the doorway.
