Chapter 83 The Ending She Gave

That thought darkened Eliza’s gaze.
When Cassius entered the hall, he seemed to fall into deep thought upon hearing the piece.
“Mr. Cassius, are you enjoying the music?” Tyson approached him and initiated the conversation. “I stumbled across this piece by chance. The first time I heard it, I was deeply moved. I heard you’re a great loyer of music, so I specially invited a pianist to perform it tonight.”
As Eliza listened to Tyson’s nonsense, she silently rolled her eyes.
To land a deal, he’d say anything. A merchant’s mouth was never to be trusted.
Cassius didn’t respond. He simply kept listening to the piano.
The piece lasted over forty minutes. Eliza played steadily until the final segment–where, instead of ending with the expected trailing silence, she shifted the tone completely.
Tyson noticed immediately.
She had altered the ending–added her own resolution to a composition that was never meant to have one,

But Tyson’s expression darkened.
He had never told her to do that.

Tyson’s voice was laced with warning.
But Eliza didn’t stop. She played the final note—and only then lifted her hands.
As the last note faded, Cassius stepped forward.
Tyson’s brows furrowed.
“Who told you to play it like that?” Cassius’s voice held a stern edge.
The pressure he carried wasn’t something a normal girl could bear.
But Eliza remained calm and steady.
She met Cassius’s gaze and answered plainly, “Because I felt this song needed an ending.”
“You felt?”
“Yes.”
Eliza looked him straight in the eye. “I don’t know where this piece came from. But in it. I heard pain and torment. The composer must’ve endured long–term emotional suffering–that’s why the melody loops endlessly. But even through the sorrow, I heard deep love. I think this song was written for someone she loved.”
Cassius froze.
Eliza continued, “I believe the composer would have wanted this song to have a beautiful conclusion. So I took the liberty of ending it. I wanted to break the cycle–end her pain. Isn’t that a good thing?”
Eliza was taking a gamble.
She was betting that Cassius had truly loved his wife.
There had been an article chronicling his later years.
He had abandoned luxury and moved into a thirty–square–meter apartment in an aging neighborhood–the home he and his wife had once shared.
He had once said that his greatest regret in life was never hearing the end of that song.
