Jax ran a high fever from the rain. He kept mumbling Serenity’s name in the
ward. Rylee sat sat by his bed motionless, feeling nothing. Her love for Jax was

button and doctors rushed in to treat Jax. At night, Jax finally awoke.
When Jax got well he found that he didn’t hate Rylee any more. They were
both at fault.
“Let’s divorce,” he said.
Rylee’s face turned white. She shook her head frantically. She knelt, begging
him to reconsider.
Jax closed his eyes wearily.“You were wrong, and I was wrong. Let’s stop this
mistake.”
Rylee kept shaking her head. Jax said, “The house is yours, and I’ll give you
five million. Let’s part decently.”
Before Rylee could respond, Jax’s mother stormed in and slapped him.
“You can’t divorce! If you divorce, your father will kick you out of the
Landry family and take back all the shares you have! You won’t be able to
compete with your brother! All you have to do now is have a baby with Rylee and

Jax covered his face, laughing. He didn’t care, because he had lost what was
most precious to him. He insisted on the divorce, despite his mother’s objection.
A year later, Jax and Rylee were in the news again. This time it was about a
near–fatal stabbing. Rylee, during their divorce proceedings, stabbed Jax. The
staff member rushed over and saved Jax’s life. After hours of surgery, he was
stabilized and put in the ICU. Rylee was sentenced to ten years for attempted
