Chapter 15 I Deserve to Die
Night fell, and the moonlight struggled to shine through thick, dark clouds.
Inside Price Mansion, a grand crystal chandelier lit up the opulent hall. Zachary, who wasn’t one to go to bed early, sat at the bar counter. He wore a black shirt with a dark red vest. Pouring a glass of red wine, he watched the deep red liquid swirl in the clear glass. Amirror beside the wine cabinet reflected his sharply defined jawline.
He tilted his head back and drank the wine in one go. Next to him lay a file–documents related to a kidnapping and explosion case from years earlier.
Zachary came from a prestigious family. His mother was from the Millers, known for their jewelry business and scholarly background. She married the Prices, though she had no feelings for her husband, and gave birth to Zachary, the sole heir of the Prices.
When Zachary was 13, he went to the Miller Residence in Sonnawood with his mother. That night, an explosion occurred. He saw his mother die in the blast while he was kidnapped and left in à precarious
situation.
On the return journey to Dreunga, the van carrying him was involved in several accidents on the highway.
Despite the danger, he survived, rescued by an ordinary man–Leo Sullivan, Jocelyn’s father, who was a
taxi driver.
Zachary then arrived at the Sullivans when Jocelyn was only one year old.
At that time, he had no idea how many people were secretly searching for him. He kept his identity secret and lived in hiding, nursing his injuries at the Sullivans for years.
His peace was short–lived, though, as Jocelyn’s parents died in a car crash, leaving five–year–old Jocelyn behind.
She ended up in an orphanage, and though Zachary initially intended to leave her there, he couldn’t resist her pleas to stay with him.
As the years passed, the little girl grew up quickly.
When the Prices thought he was dead, Zachary officially returned at 25. His return wasn’t just for the family business–it was also to track down those responsible for the tragedy years ago.
The explosion at the Miller Residence years ago took the lives of 45 people.
On Zachary’s desk lay a file listing everyone connected to the incident.
Only a few of those involved had been identified so far The rest remained hidden, like vermin in the dark.
As the old clock struck midnight, several black cars emerged from the shadows.
Evan stepped out of one, and from the last two cars, bodyguards escorted three men with black hoods on their heads. Their hands were bound, and their mouths were taped shut to prevent them from speaking. Evan entered the hall and stood behind Zachary, bowing slightly as he reported, “Mr. Price, the three

people we captured have been brought here.”
Zachary poured another glass of red wine, his cold gaze reflecting a trace of drunkenness as he watched the wine swirl. “Have they admitted to their involvement
Evan nodded. “Yes, they’ve admitted. They were involved in the explosion at the Millers, but they don’t know who orchestrated it.”
Zachary waved dismissively.
Evan understood and turned to leave.
Soon, a miserable cry echoed from the courtyard of the Price Mansion.
One of the men struggled to tear off the tape and begged, “Mr. Price, our families were in trouble back then! We had no choice but to do it for money. We were only following orders. If it weren’t for our families, we would never have done such things!
“It’s been so many years. Can’t you spare me? I’ll do anything you ask!”
In the opulent mansion, Zachary, who exuded an icy and regal presence, walked out of the hall. His eyes. were as dark as the night, and his voice, deep and deliberate, seemed to echo like a demon’s.
“Spare you? Fifteen years ago, the explosion at the Millers took 45 lives. If you seek mercy, ask the souls in the underworld if they’ll forgive you!”
Zachary stood before him, his gaze cold and unfeeling
The man, realizing there was no escape, suddenly stood up and laughed maniacally. “Yes, it was me! Not only did we kill people, but we also had our way with that girl! She was only 14, but she was beautiful and appealing. You have no idea how satisfying it was. I even dream about it sometimes! Even if I have to die, I won’t die in vain! At least I took many down with me!”
Zachary’s expression darkened as if he were looking at corpse.
He signaled someone. Shortly, a woman and a young girl were brought in.
The man, who had been so bold and defiant moments ago, immediately became terrified. “You monster! Don’t hurt my family! Let them go!
“Mr. Price, I know I was wrong. I’m beyond redemption. I deserve to die!
“My wife and daughter are deaf and mute. They haven’t done anything wrong. Please don’t hurt them.
Please!
“Tm–willing to surrender. I’ll exchange my life for theirs!”
When the man grabbed Zachary’s pants, Zachary responded by kicking him down. “Did you ever consider sparing my family when they were pleading for their lives?
“Don’t worry. After you’re gone, I’ll make sure they join you. Life debts must be settled!“”
Zachary took the baton from the bodyguard.
