Chapter 16 Are You Afraid of Me?
It had been several days since Zachary had been away.
Jocelyn was puzzled by his sudden return–wasn’t he supposed to cut ties with her?
In the past, Zachary had often been injured, and Jocelyn had become accustomed to caring for him.. Before he rejoined the Prices, the money he brought back was questionable, but she had accepted it because life had been tough, and he had supported her It hadn’t been easy.
Though Jocelyn had moved past her romantic feelings for Zachary, she couldn’t forget the support he had given her. Without him, she wouldn’t be where she was now.
At this point, she saw him only as a brother.
Whether Zachary decided to abandon her or become engaged to Yvette, she would respect his decision.
Ill get
the first aid kit,” she said as she started to stand up. But Zachary stopped her by grabbing her wrist.
“It’s not my blood.”
+ She hesitated, uncertain whether to feel frightened or relieved by his statement. What had he been
involved in?
In the quiet moment, Jocelyn returned to her senses. She then chose to sit beside Zachary, picked up some tissues from the table, and gently wiped the blood from his face. Her delicate and tender face only showed
concern.
Zachary didn’t stop her from tending to him, though he usually kept people at a distance.
“Josie, are you afraid of me?”
Jocelyn looked into his intense eyes, shook her head, and replied softly. “No, I’m not afraid. I know you care about me. No matter what happens, you won’t hurt me.” She added, “As long as I don’t make any mistakes, you’ll treat me better than anyone else.”
That was true. In her past life, she had tried repeatedly to hurt Yvette and even schemed to drive a wedge. between her and Zachary. As long as Yvette wasn’t harmed, he never held her accountable. Every birthday. he had never missed celebrating it. Besides being his wife, Jocelyn received nearly all the attention and care that his wife would have.
Even if she made the gravest mistakes, Zachary would do everything possible to shield her from harm and avoid punishment.
Jocelyn wiped the blood from Zachary’s eyes, which were his most captivating feature. Every time she Hooked into them, she felt like she was getting lost in a whirlpool.
Her gaze then moved to his slender lips, which had a certain allure. She had heard that people with thin lips could be heartless.
But Zachary wasn’t like that–his heart belonged solely to Yvette.
Remembering his cold demeanor, Jocelyn pulled herself out of her thoughts and stepped back. After all,

Zachary was never meant to be hers.
He brushed away the hair falling in front of her face. “You’re not afraid of me?”
It seemed that in her past life, everyone was afraid of Zachary. Even a mere glance from him would make people shiver.
Jocelyn was never afraid of him. She had often argued with him, and he had been exasperated with her
numerous t
times.
Each time, he had to suppress his anger, leading to days of silence between them until he would eventually lower his pride to coax her back.
Jocelyn’s voice was gentle as she said, “It means you care about me. You have your reasons for everything you do.
“Oh, by the way, are you free on the 7th of next month
After cleaning the blood, Jocelyn threw the used tissues away but noticed some blood on his hair that needed to be wiped with a damp towel.
Zachary crossed his long legs and looked at her. I have a business trip to Seaville next month. What’s up? Do you need something?”
Jocelyn’s eyes widened for a moment, and she quickly waved it off. “It’s nothing. I was just curious.”
It was probably for the best that he wasn’t available. She didn’t want him to attend the parent–teacher meeting.
His current status made him too conspicuous.
Jocelyn didn’t want anyone to know that her brother, who wasn’t biologically related to her, was the CEO of Crypticorps.
She just wanted to finish high school without complications.
Her concern was evident, and Zachary understood. It was natural for her to keep some secrets as she grew
- up.
He reached out to touch her hair. “It’s almost dawn. You should get some rest.”
Jocelyn nodded, standing up from the sofa. “Then I’m going back to rest first. You should get some sleep up the scattered snacks, Zachary asked coldly, “Who did too. As she walked toward the door and pick you go out with?”
She lied casually, “Well, tomorrow is the weekend. I won’t cook and will only cat snacks. I want to study hard for the mock test next week.”
After gathering the snacks, she hurried back to her room, making sure Zachary didn’t notice anything
unusual.
Zachary had been adamant about her not interacting with Christian.
Christian was genuinely kind, but Jocelyn didn’t understand why her brother was so opposed to him.

Even in her past life, they were almost enemies, involved in completely different fields and thriving in their ways.
The market in Dreunga was small, and her actions had cost Christian dearly.
Jocelyn returned to her room, brushed her teeth, and fell asleep quickly.
When she woke up around 11:00 am, she found herself covered with a thin blanket and Zachary’s black suit jacket.
Instantly alert, she picked up the jacket, put on her shoes, and went out, only to find the living room empty. Zachary had already left.
She noticed a table of dishes on the table, all her favorites.
“Zac?” Seeing that the food was still warm, she hoped Zachary hadn’t left yet. When she got no response, she realized she was overthinking.
As a brother Zachary was impeccable.
After a quick breakfast, Jocelyn hurried to review her lessons. With the weather getting warmer, she put the leftover food in the refrigerator to prevent it from spoiling.
Meanwhile, Zachary sat with his eyes closed in the back passenger seat as Evan drove through a quiet alley.
Evan parked the car and said, “Mr. Price, we’ve arrived!
Zachary opened his eyes and looked out coldly. “Hyacinth Clinic …”
