Chapter 3 Zac, Don’t Drink So Much From Now On
Zachary got her a week off from school.
He hadn’t visited since she left the hospital.
At midnight, Jocelyn woke up thirsty, so she got up to pour herself a glass of water.
She heard familiar footsteps outside the door, and before the person could knock, she was already waiting.
Jocelyn peeked through the peephole and saw that the drunk person was back.
With him was a guy in a black suit–Zachary’s assistant Evan.
She quickly opened the door,
Evan helped Zachary onto the sofa.
He knew about Jocelyn. He said, “Mr. Price had quite a few drinks at the party. Thanks for looking after him, Ms. Sullivan.”
Jocelyn had seen him a lot, so she knew him well enough.
She nodded and said. “Thanks, Mr. Gomez.”
Once Evan left, Jocelyn went over to the sofa and helped Zachary take off his coat and shoes.
Zachary only came over to her place when he couldn’t stand being at the Prices‘ residence or when he had issues outside.
It was a harsh place filled with scheming and power struggles.
He was barely able to see clearly and noticed that she was wearing a worn white nightgown that came to just above her knees. Her pale, slender legs were visible, and the outline of her underwear was slightly visible.
Jocelyn took a bowl of hangover soup from the fridge and brought it over. She felt a bit uneasy under Zachary’s gaze, but she carefully looked after him, still carrying a trace of her past fear.
With a hazy look in his eyes, Zachary asked, “Feeling any better?”
Jocelyn was startled by his sudden voice. ‘I–I’m feeling better. Thanks for your concern, Zac.”
“Why aren’t you wearing the new clothes I bought your
Zachary squinted, noticing her nervousness.
Since leaving the hospital, she seemed to be quite afraid of him.
Jocelyn replied, “They’re still drying on the balcony. I haven’t brought them in yet.”
Even though the house was a bit shabby, Zachary had always made sure she had everything she needed,

Jocelyn sat down on a small stool next to Zachary. Her thin nightgown barely covered her, and she held a spoonful of hangover soup to his lips, not daring to look at him. “Zac, try not to drink so much from now on. It’s bad for your health.”
He took a sip and nodded.
It was tomato juice with sugar, which was great for a hangover.
As the CEO of a company, Zachary had to drink with clients now and then, so getting drunk sometimes was just part of the job.
Since she was young, Jocelyn had always known how to look after him.
Noticing the cut on Zachary’s hand, she asked, “Your hand is hurt? What happened?”
Zachary took a deep breath and covered his eyes with his hand. “It’s just a scratch. It’s nothing serious.”
The cut happened when Zachary handed over the Southriver Bay project to the Fosters. Austin Price, the Old Mr. Price, was so angry that he threw a cup, and some of the broken pieces cut him.
The wound wasn’t too serious and had probably been there for a few hours. At least it wasn’t bleeding any
more.
Compared to Zachary’s past injuries, this one was pretty minor.
Seeing that he didn’t want to talk about it, Jocelyn bit her lip, slowly stood up, and quietly went to get the first aid kit from the room.
Then, Zachary felt a soft touch on his fingertips. When he opened his eyes, he saw the girl beside him using a cotton swab with iodine to clean his wound. He watched her with a softer gaze, taking in her shiny black hair falling from her shoulders and her smooth, glowing skin, like a peeled egg. Her eyes were clear and innocent, showing she hadn’t seen much of the world.
Jocelyn was still growing up, but in the future, her beauty would be enough to turn any man’s head.
After she finished treating his wound and wrapped it with a bandage, she said with concern, “Be more careful in the future. Try not to get hurt again.”
He just nodded.
Jocelyn looked away from his wound and noticed Zachary staring at her. She quickly averted her gaze.
Then she suddenly asked, “Zac, when are you planning to marry Ms. Foster
Zachary’s expression turned a bit colder. ‘Did she come to see you?”
Jocelyn shook her head. “No, I just saw you on TV the other day. Didn’t you say you were going to marry Ms. Foster?
“Will you invite me to your wedding when you get married?”
After she finished bandaging his wound, she tied a neat bow on his hand.
Zachary watched her closely, as if he was trying to figure something out from her eyes. Her expression was

calm. Since coming back from the hospital, she seemed different.
Zachary said, “Josie, I won’t be coming around often anymore.”
Jocelyn paused for a moment, already knowing what Zachary was going to say.
With the Prices and Fosters about to be joined through marriage, Zachary’s position in the Price family would be more secure once he married Yvette.
In her past life, she had insisted on staying with Zachary, and he had no choice but to take her to the Prices‘ residence.
In her past life, Jocelyn learned that that place was a ruthless place.
If it weren’t for Zachary’s position keeping the schemers at bay, she might have been long gone.
But this time, it looked like it was time for her to move on from Zachary.
After all, she and Zachary weren’t family by blood. It was always her stubbornness that kept her clinging to
him.
Zachary had already done more than enough for her.
Jocelyn nodded and said, “I get it, Zac. I’ve been doing fine on my own these past three months.
“I’m sixteen now, so I can cook and do my own laundry. I’ve saved up the money you gave me, and it’ll last me until I start college.
“Don’t worry about me. Just take care of what you need to.
“I’ll be fine.”
Zachary gently stroked her long hair and said. “If anything comes up, you can always call me.”
Jocelyn smiled and nodded.
She had already come to terms with her feelings for Zachary,
When Zachary left, he left her a bank card with a password set to the day she left the orphanage, which was also her birthday.
Zachary was really gone.
When she tried calling him, his old number was no longer in service.
She couldn’t pretend she wasn’t upset–it hurt more than she wanted to admit.
Because she was an orphan.
Zachary was the only family she had, and now that he was gone, it felt like she was completely on her own.
But what can she do about it?
