Chapter 59 

Asher could tell Ursa was mockingbim, and it made him feel a bit frustrated. Elara had rushed our of the classroom yesterday, and Asher hadn’t expected it to be because of her father.

But now, when she no longer turned to him and went to Lysander instead, Asher found himself unexpectedly feeling a deep sense of disappointment.

Ursa nodded. “Yes. I told him about you and Mr. Hawthorne going to Lodorwood. He didn’t seem very happy. He just left without saying anything.” 

Elara sighed. “Ursa, are all men like this?” 

“Like what?” Ursa asked. 

“When you treat them well, they don’t care about you. But once you stop paying attention, they start acting all emotional, like they’re deeply in love, just to disgust you,” Elara said. 

It was like they enjoyed building up this image of themselves as devoted. Even when they didn’t care at all, they had to make it look like the relationship ended, but it wasn’t their fault. Asher was exactly like that now. 

Ursa simply replied, “Yes,” 

Elara glanced at her, smiled slightly, and dropped the subject. Everyone was focused on their exams at the moment, and no one had the time or energy to be distracted by anything else. 

On May 26th, Barrett was discharged from the hospital. He had returned a couple of days earlier. Elara had insisted he stay, in on the 26th, so he came back to Brookfield a bit earlier, accompanied by Monica and Chloe.

Barrett glanced at her. “What is it?”

“I just saw the news. It’s all my fault,” Monica blurted out. The moment she saw the news, her first reaction had been relief. 

If it weren’t for Elara insisting that Barrett return early and change his plans, they could’ve been caught in the accident today. 

“It’s not your fault. You were just worried about me. Now, both of you, go,” Barrett said, his eyes fixed on the laptop screen. But he couldn’t seem to snap out of it. 

He remembered what Hadden had once told him. A few words from Elara had helped him resolve the fire safety issue at the hotel 

At this moment, Lysander was still at school. He was looking at his phone when he came across the news notification on Twitter. Curious, he clicked on it and was reminded of what Elam had said that day in the hospital. 

Lysander had thought she was just talking casually, but now it seemed that her words weren’t random at all. And when he connected it to what had happened with Regal Crest Hotel, it was becoming even more intriguing.

“The landslide on the Soward Mount highway,” Lysander said softly. 

Hearing his words, Elara quickly averted her eyes, feeling a bit guilty. “Really?” she said, pretending to check her phone. 

In reality, she had already seen it earlier at school on Twitter and had been relieved that her father had narrowly escaped the disaster. She hadn’t expected Lysander to bring it up now, 

Lysander kept his eyes on Elara, “Looks like your dream was pretty accurate,‘ he said. 

Elara coughed lightly, holding her phone. “Yeah, seems like it. I didn’t expect something like that to actually happen. Good thing my dad’s okay.” 

“Elara,” Lysander said, sitting beside her, his expression growing more serious as he looked at her. “Last time, when your mentioned the fire safety issue at Regal Crest Hotel, was that also something you dreamed about?” 

Elara hesitated at his question, realizing that Lysander was starting to pay closer attention to her. She coughed again, then replied, “Of course. What else would it be?” 

“So, in your dreams… did you ever dream about me and you?” he asked, leaning in closer with a curious smile 

At that moment, the car hit a bump, and the distance between them shrank immediately. Elara found herself looking at Lysander up close.

Though she had teased him before, they had never been this close. She had never studied him from this distance. Seeing her silence, Lysander, towering over her, pressed her again. “So, did you dream about me?”

“What was I supposed to say? That I dreamt of sacrificing everything for Asher, dying tragically, and then needing Lysander to collect my body? she thought. 

Lysander obediently let her push him away, sitting back in his seat, but his gaze never left her. During dinner, Elara noticed Lysander kept looking at her, which made her feel even guiltier 

The main problem was that Lysander was just too sharp, Elara even began wondering if he had guessed that she had time traveled. 

She focused on the menu, trying hard not to look at him. After ordering, she had nothing to do and accidentally caught his gaze again. To break the silence, she asked, “By the way, Lysander, when’s your birthday?” 

She had been with him for so long but had never heard him mention anything about his birthday, With the SATS over soon, her birthday would be approaching, but she still didn’t know when his birthday was. 

Lysander finally shifted his attention from her dreams when he heard her question, “My birthday already passed,” he said. 

“When?” Elara asked, surprised.
