Chapter 7
BETHANY’S POV
“Now where on earth am I supposed to meet him?“) groaned, walking down the hallways, the head maid’s words kept ringing in my head.
Death.
Why would he kill me? He hadn’t specified where to meet him! I swallowed thickly, trying to calm down.
Starlight, where do you think he wants us to wait for him?
I don’t know, my wolf replied. But I’m sure it’ll be romantic-
1 threw my head back in a bitter sarcastic laugh. Two guards who manned the hallways glanced at me weirdly, so I flushed and walked faster.
You don’t know? I taunted my wolf. It wasn’t a wise thing to do, but I couldn’t help myself anyway. Loving them is the only you’re good for and pinning over them.
A sharp searing emotion filled my chest, similar to when the Alpha’s announced they rejected me but not exactly like it. My wolf was hurt, I could feel it deep in my bones.
My eyes watered, and I blinked rapidly to keep the tears from coming. Wolf or not, she had been missing for twenty–one years. If I had… If she had shown up earlier, if I had my wolf all these years, maybe I wouldn’t be in such a position right now–running down the halls to please some violent Alpha.
I stopped walking at some point and considered just going back to my room. If the result was death, then so be it- wait?
My brows creased in a frown. It was Alpha Damien’s room they had taken me to the last time, wasn’t it?
Of course, it was. All I had to do was find the way there. I walked back to the guards from earlier, bowing my head low in embarrassment and hoping they wouldn’t try to ‘claim‘ me for themselves.
“E–Excuse me,”
They stiffened but didn’t say anything.
“I am to go to Alpha Damien’s room. Can you describe the way there please?”
“You mean his quarters?” One of them scoffed arrogantly.
I nodded meekly. The guard gave the directions, and I thanked him and walked out of the hallway.
The palace was huge, much more huge than I had expected or imagined. There were four distinct quarters to the north, south, east, and west housing the four Alphas that ruled the pack. Alpha Damien’s was in the north.
And it was beautiful.
There were rose bushes along the path, different colors. Statues of wolves snarling lined either side of the steps that led into his quarters. His scent was heavy and strong in the air, and against my own will, I inhaled deeply, taking in his scent. It tickled my insides and I curled my lips in anger.
I am a maid to him, nothing more.
I reached the door and raised my hand to knock.
“Come in,” Came a deep gravelly voice from within. I shuddered, recalling the way he had spoken in the hall. Any excitement to meet him fled my body. When I walked into the apartment, I felt that dangerous aura again and it felt like I was walking into the wolf’s den, about to be devoured down to my
bones.

Chapter 7
He stood in the hallway, taking up so much space with his huge figure. He had a coat on that draped nicely against his broad shoulders and a nasty look on his face.
“You are late,”
My well whimpered and my head dropped in a bow. “I… I’m sorry Alpha,”
He growled, taking a few steps forward.
Death, the head maid’s words rang in my head and I panicked. Was he really about to kill me?!
“I didn’t know,” I blurted, terrified. “I didn’t know where to meet you, it won’t happen again!”
He stopped then, just a few inches away from me. I could feel the burning look in his eyes as they narrowed into slits and then he nodded. “It had better not happen again. Trust me, you do not want this to happen again.”
1 let out a breath shakily, clasping my fingers together. “Yes, Alpha,”
“You work for me, starting today. I don’t care how you clean or whatever shit it is you maids do, whatever you do, stay out of my sight. I do not want to see your face.”
“How’s that possible when I’m working for you?” I grumbled.
“What was that?”
“Nothing! I.. uhm, I’ll do my best to stay out of your sight, Alpha.”
“Do that,” He grunted, eyes fixed on me, rooting me to the spot. How does he do that? How does he act like I am a major pain in the ass for him yet look at me with such a burning gaze? I could never understand it.
“Alpha,” A female voice intruded the moment and it was gone. She was tall, dressed in a worker’s outfit, and looked quite familiar; I just couldn’t place it.
“Good, moon–face girl, tell that one what she needs to know,” Alpha Damien said and strutted out of the hallway.
I glanced back at the lady. “Moon face girl?”
She held her head up haughtily. “Is it funny? Call me that and I’ll stick a butter knife in your throat.”
What the hell? Why was everyone here so bloodthirsty? I gave a sheepish smile and looked down at my toes.
“My name’s Selene. To survive here, here are a few simple rules. Make yourself scarce, the Aloha doesn’t like to see the same face over and over.”
That part was confusing. “Then why did he choose me as a personal maid?”
“Trust me, we all have that question,” She said snidely, “Figure out how to stay out of his sight mostly. The Alpha is very volatile and could wake up one day declaring that your neck be snapped.”
I wrapped my hands around my neck, gulping hard.
“Two, do not, for any reason, and in any case, show up before him when you’re wounded. If you have fresh wounds, stay away from him.”
“Why?” I mumbled and got a death glare.
“How about you show up with fresh wounds and find out why?”
Holy smokes. Everyone here is so hostile and harsh, right Starlight?
I got no response, and the words I said to my wolf earlier haunted me. She must be hurt.

Chapter 7
The door swung open behind me, and the head maid walked in. I wanted to yell at her for not telling me to go to Damien’s residence in the first place, but held my tongue.
“Selene, have you put the girl through?” She asked.
The lady who had been so cold to me smiled at the head maid. “Yes, Mother. We’re all done.”
Hearing her called the head maid mother makes me realized why I thought she resemble someone I know, she has a resemblance with the head maid.
“Good,” The head maid replied. “We need to get back to the chambers, it’s very late.”
I followed them out of the Alpha’s residence without a word. The sky had grown dark. It was late indeed. As we walked back to the maid chambers, the sound of grunts and moans filled the air. Screams too. I shuddered. The poor women were probably being handled by brutal guards.
By the time I got back to my room, I was exhausted.
Melanie was waiting at the door, fear in her eyes. She looked relieved when she saw me.
“Oh my goodness, what happened with Alpha Damien?” She asked as we walked in.
“Nothing, he only took me as a maid-”
“That’s the thing Bethany, that never happens.”
I sighed. “Everyone keeps saying that. I don’t understand what’s happening either-”
The door to our room was thrown open, and a group of girls walked in, all hostile. Their eyes narrowed on me and one of them, a blonde who seemed to lead them, pointed at me. “There’s the bitch that got our girls killed.”
I gasped, exchanging glances with Melanie. “What… What are they talking about?”
