Chapter 12
I couldn’t bring myself to thank him.
Tristan’s hand rested lightly on the steering wheel. His wrist was as slender and elegant as a piece of art.
1 recognized that the watch on his wrist was an Audemars Piguet. It was understatedly luxurious and very expensive.
Suddenly, he turned to look at me. Feeling embarrassed, I averted my gaze and asked, “Um… Tristan, where am I supposed to go now?”
I frowned, trying hard to rack my brain. “I forgot where Chloe lives.”
Tristan sighed. “Are you really sure you’ve forgotten everything?”
I nodded. “The doctor said I have intermittent amnesia. I might not remember anything at all.
Tristan frowned. “Is it really that serious? Does Jameson know?”
I shook my head, forcing a bitter smile. “He doesn’t believe me. He thinks I’m just making it up.”
Tristan seemed a bit angry. He fixed his gaze on me for a moment before changing the conversation. “Do you have WhatsApp?”
I hesitated for a moment, caught off guard, then realized he wanted my contact. Quickly, I fumbled for my phone and said, “I’m so sorry! I should have added you earlier. I was just a little confused.”
Tristan pulled out his phone at the red light. With his long, elegant fingers, he tapped the screen before scanning my WhatsApp QR code.
I added him as a contact and clicked on his profile picture, which turned out to be a black–and- white abstract painting. Though I couldn’t decipher its meaning, it perfectly matched his aloof demeanor.
He appeared cold and distant, and his thoughts were difficult to grasp.
I said, “I’ll transfer you the money for the medicine…”
Suddenly, Tristan reached out. His long, cool fingers brushed against mine and made my face
flush.
He chuckled softly. “Don’t worry about that. Let me get you settled first.”
We didn’t speak for the rest of the journey. Tristan appeared to be a man of few words, leaving me uncertain about what to say.
Chapter 12
He casually turned on the car’s music, and a soothing plano melody filled the air. Gradually, the tension I had felt all day began to melt away.
Before I knew it, I had drifted off to sleep against the car window, I slept deeply, as if I were a baby again, cradled in warmth.
The car came to a stop, and I opened my eyes groggily.
“Are you awake?”
A subtle scent of pine wafted through the air as Tristan leaned in to unbuckle my seatbelt. The pinewood scent grew stronger the closer he got. Instinctively, I leaned back.
Tristan smiled softly and pointed at the corner of my mouth. “Wipe that.”
Confused, I reached up to touch my face. At that moment, I wished I could just knock myself out against the car window. I had been drooling!
Frantically wiping my mouth, I stammered, “I’m such a pig. I must have been sleeping really soundly.”
Tristan shook his head. “Don’t say that about yourself, Wyn. Even if you were a pig, you’d still be the cutest one.”
I tried to suppress a laugh but couldn’t help bursting out. I laughed so hard that tears streamed down my face.
Tristan looked at me with innocent eyes and a faint smile.
Finally, I caught my breath and looked at him seriously. “Tristan, thank you. I honestly don’t
know what I would have done without you today.
He replied, almost unexpectedly, “You look so much better when you smile.”
My heart skipped a beat.
