1 sat on the bed, feeling as though I were dreaming. The room wasn’t overly luxurious, yet it exuded a warmth and coziness that made it feel just right.
A maid set a fresh change of clothes on the foot of the bed and smiled. “Ms. Lambert, these pajamas were chosen by Mr. Zook. Please let us know if they don’t fit.”
I glanced at the pale pink pajamas and nodded quickly. “Please thank Mr. Zook for me.”
The maid then showed me how to use the bedside phone and adjust the bathroom controls. before leaving.
My phone vibrated. It was Chloe.
“What took you so long to answer?” she complained. “I was so worried! Did Jameson do anything to you? And how’s your arm?”
I quickly filled her in on what happened at the hospital.
Chloe was stunned. “Dr. Johnson? Eric Johnson? The orthopedics expert? Oh my gosh, who was that handsome guy who saved you? He must be really influential!”
I thought for a moment. “He said his name was Tristan Zook. He was a classmate of my
brother.”
Chloe screamed into the phone. “What? What did you say? Tristan Zook? Are you sure?”
I frowned. “That’s the name. What’s wrong
Chloe paused for a moment. “Tristan Zook! Look him up! Now! Right now!”
I searched for him on the internet and was stunned. My breath caught in my throat. “Is he the first result that comes up when I search for his name?”
“You said you’re on a mountain in Stallion Cove, right?”
I nodded. “Yeah, it’s stunning here. There aren’t any other houses around.”
Chloe let out another scream. “Of course there aren’t! The Zook family owns several
mountains around Stallion Cove! It’s been in their family for generations. No one else can build houses on their land!
“Oh my gosh, you silly girl! You’re so lucky! You’ve met a real catch!”
As Chloe rambled on, I began to piece together Tristan’s background.

Chloe sounded exasperated on the other end of the phone. With a hint of disappointment, she asked, “Wynonna, do you really think your brother is impressive?”
