It felt like an eternity, and I almost thought that Jameson had muted his phone,
Just as I was about to hang up in frustration, his voice finally came through. “Wyn, it’s a misunderstanding. It was Xandra’s birthday today, so I had dinner with her and gave her the gift I promised. I really…”
I smiled faintly. I was convinced my voice sounded light and carefree as I said, “Mr. Brown, thank you. You’ve made it clear that I’m nothing more than a fool in this marriage. You must rehearse this explanation quite a bit, don’t you?”
“It’s all a misunderstanding. There’s nothing going on between us. You’re overthinking it.
Don’t make a fuss.”
I replied softly, “Mr. Brown, I wish you and Xandra a wonderful dinner tonight. Happy birthday to her. May you be by her side every year on her birthday.”
I hung up and promptly blocked his number.
Peace was restored.
I picked up the glass of water beside my bed and took a deep gulp. I was so tired. My life would likely be much less exhausting without Jameson in it.
There was a gentle knock on the door, and I called out, “Come in.”
The door swung open, revealing Tristan, who had just returned from the office. He stood before me in his crisp suit.
He wore a different outfit today. A sleek black silk suit elegantly framed his tall figure, while gold–rimmed glasses perched on his nose. The high–quality suit, paired with a deep blue- striped tie, enhanced his natural aristocratic aura.
His hair was neatly combed back, revealing a smooth, full forehead. His facial features were strikingly handsome, highlighted by a straight nose, and the gold–rimmed glasses added a scholarly air to his appearance.
The man standing before me was incredibly attractive, leaving me utterly stunned.
I had to take back what I said earlier. Tristan is undeniably more handsome than Jameson. His down–to–earth demeanor was simply him toning down his brilliance.
The way Tristan carried himself was undeniably captivating.
When he caught my gaze, he offered a slight smile. “Sorry, I was just finishing up with a big international client.”

Tristan casually settled onto the couch beside my bed and shook his head. “I don’t have to. I’m not great with drinking, so I let the PR department handle it.”
I fidgeted with my phone as a twinge of guilt washed over me. “I’m… I’m fine now. The doctor said I can go home to recover.”
Tristan smiled as he looked at me. “I know. Jason called me at 4:30 pm.”
He tapped on his phone, seemingly scrolling through some pictures.
“Jason mentioned that the swelling in your brain is decreasing, but you’ll need a few more days on the IV drip. Your arm was redressed today, and the injury to your waist is just a soft tissue contusion. All your other scrapes have been treated as well. So overall, it’s nothing
serious.”
Curiosity got the better of me, so I leaned forward and noticed that Jason had sent over medical records and an MRI image.
I felt a swell of gratitude. “Tristan, you were busy with a major client, yet you still thought about me.”
Tristan adjusted his glasses and smiled. “It’s only natural. I was supposed to take you check–up, but something urgent came up that I couldn’t avoid.”

Under his intense gaze, my heart raced, and I quickly looked away. “Tristan, you don’t have to worry about me so much. I’m really fine,” I reassured him.
Suddenly, he leaned closer, and I instinctively flinched back. But instead of pressing further, he simply stood up to check my IV drip.
I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me for my overreaction. Clearly, my mind was still hazy. He hadn’t even done anything.
With a calm demeanor, he said, “Don’t say that. It’s only natural for me to worry about you.”
Noticing my confusion, he smiled and added, “You’re Charles’s sister. If I don’t look after you, he’ll hold me accountable.”
