Chapter 34
I paused.
Behind me, a chorus of jeers erupted.
“Is that Wynonna? Haha! Doesn’t she always suck up to Jameson? I remember that she used to beg him for forgiveness. She even gave each of us 50 thousand dollars as a gift.”
“She’s always chasing after him. I swear she has informants in every bar in the city. Talk about dedication, right? Too bad Jameson doesn’t even give a damn about her.”
“She’s such a loser. She’s always beggin
family’s reputation.”
him for attention. She has ruined the Lambert
“Keep your voice down.
She es‘ sister.”
“So what? Why should we care? We’re Jameson’s best buddies. She’s lucky to even be able to get néar us.”
The Lamberts really messed up in raising a daughter like her.”
I was taken aback. Anger simmered inside me.
Chloe had overheard their outrageous comments too. She grasped my hand and said, “Let’s go. Don’t let them get to you. They’re just a bunch of entitled rich kids who know nothing beyond spending their parents‘ money.
I spun
around abruptly and slapped the guy who had been talking the most.
He was caught off guard, and his cigarette fell to the ground as he stumbled back a few steps. He covered his face as his eyes widened in disbelief. “Did you just slap me?”
Without saying a word, I turned and swiped at the guy who had been talking.
“Ah! She hit me!” he exclaimed.
My expression was grim as I began to fight back against them all. I had no idea where I found the strength to take on four or five of them alone.
Chloe rushed over and tried to pull them away from me. She shouted, “You filthy bastards! Do you even know who you’re dealing with? She’s from the Lambert family!
“You’re nothing but a bunch of lowlifes! Just because Wynonna doesn’t respond doesn’t mean that you can talk about her like that!” Chloe dragged me along as she fought the others off.
My mind was like a blank slate, filled only with distorted images of the faces of the people surrounding me.
All I could think of was to shout, “Shut the hell up, you bastards! Just shut up!”
Chapter 34
2/2
They could insult me all they wanted, but they had better not dare to insult my family or my brother. I was determined to make them pay.
The group finally sprang into action and lunged at me, but I fought back with fierce determination. One against one, and two against two–I stood my ground against them all.
It was unbelievable that the four or five of them couldn’t handle just me and Chloe.
Someone called for security, while another threatened to call the police.
Despite my determination, I was still knocked to the ground several times.
Just as the security guards were closing in to pin me down, a tall figure surged through the crowd, forcefully shoving aside anyone holding me down. He was strong, and he pulled me
into his arms.
“Stop it, all of you!” he commanded.
I didn’t know what magic words had just been spoken, but it was clear that everyone was backing off.
He looked down at me anxiously and asked, “Wyn, are you okay?”
I looked up and smiled reassuringly. “Tristan, I’m fine.”
But as I wiped my nose, I realized that it was smeared with blood.
