My grandma had passed away when I was just ten years old, and her passing had come so suddenly. In her final moments at the hospital, she had gifted me this pair of opal bracelets.
In the ward, she hesitated before saying, “Sweetie pie, I don’t have much to offer. These opal bracelets have been with me since I was young. When you find true love, this bracelet will be your dowry.”
I was crying and struggling to breathe. Jameson held me down and reassured me, “Wynonna, don’t leave. Everything’s going to be fine.”
I slapped him hard and stared at him. “Things can’t be fine when you’ve destroyed grandma’s photo!”
I picked up the photo, trembling and in tears.
The door opened, and Xandra was shocked to see us in bed. She asked, “Jameson, what are you doing?”
Seizing the moment, I grabbed the opal bracelets from Jameson’s hand and tried to run away. However, Xandra stopped me. “You can’t leave!”
She eyed the bracelets in my hand with suspicion and greed. I instinctively concealed them behind me. My eyes were bloodshot as I snarled. “Get out of the way!”
Xandra seemed provoked and stopped pretending. She tried to grab my bracelets, which made me feel angry. I felt like hitting her.
Xandra shoved me aside and exclaimed, “These don’t belong to you.
I got anxious and bit her wrist hard, causing Xandra to scream and let go. Immediately after, I was slapped firmly in the face.
Xandra regained her composure and jumped into Jameson’s arms, crying. “She bit me! I just wanted to get back what’s yours.”
My face swelled and turned red, and I tasted blood in my mouth. I looked at Jameson, who was
staring down at me. “You hit me…”
Jameson looked at his palm and then coldly said, “Wynonna, apologize.”
I wiped the blood from my mouth and said sarcastically, “Apologize? These bracelets were left by my grandma. Who does she think she is? How dare she take them from me?”
Jameson remarked coldly, “You need to apologize for hurting Xandra.”
I spat out bloody saliva aimed at Xandra, causing her to scream. Jameson noticed and raised his hand again. I glared at him, seeing him as an enemy.

Jameson controlled his impulses and put down his hand. “You want to leave, right?”

His voice suddenly took on a menacing tone. “Wynonna, if you wish to leave this place today, you must kneel as you do so.”
He protected Xandra and blocked the door. Xandra smiled at me sarcastically from his arms, clearly pleased that Jameson had humiliated me.
I declined, “I’d rather die than kneel.”
Jameson sneered. “Great.”
He abruptly seized the bracelet from my hand and tossed it to the ground. With a sharp snap, it shattered into fragments.
I wanted to scream but couldn’t. The opal bracelet, my grandma’s only relic, was broken. I fell to my knees, trembling as I touched it. It was all I had left of her.
Then, I remembered that there was one more bracelet. When I regained my composure, Jameson had already forcefully taken the other bracelet from me. He held it high icily and ordered, “If you kneel and apologize, I’ll set you free.”
I felt like I was losing my mind. “Jameson, you’re too cruel!”
Jameson appeared insane too, with a strange and unfamiliar expression on his face.
