Chapter 47
The next day, I found Jason and the nurse waiting outside my door. Jason noticed my new wound and sighed, saying, “I knew I shouldn’t have let you go out. Mr. Zook was really upset with me last night.”
I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. “I had no idea I would encounter Jameson. I’m truly sorry for any trouble I may have caused you.”
Jason replied with a shake of his head, “You’re going to jeopardize my job if you keep this up. You can’t be running around like this anymore.”
I nodded in agreement. In fact, I was unable to go anywhere since the case remained unresolved at the police station. Moreover, I needed to focus on my recovery from my injuries.
The Zook residence was expansive, featuring a stunning garden that boasted a magnificent wall of roses. While I admired the roses, Camila arrived with someone I certainly did not wish
to encounter.
I frowned. “Ms. Clark, why are you here?”
Camila tilted her chin, looking at me with disdain. “She was my senior in school. And I’m a member of the Zook family. Why can’t I bring her here?”
As I was about to leave, Xandra called out softly, “Ms. Lambert, I need to talk to you.”
I asked in surprise, “What do we have to talk about?”
With Jameson absent, Xandra discarded any pretense of vulnerability. She smiled and remarked, “We’ve never discussed this before, but now that you’re seeking a divorce from Jameson, I’m eager to pursue him. It seems like we have quite a bit in common.”
It was clear that Xandra was eager to confront me. After a brief pause, I replied, “Alright. Let’s discuss this.”
Xandra grinned and said, “You’re quite perceptive. Essentially, if you decide to divorce Jameson, I could ask him to offer you a more favorable split of the assets.”
I sneered. “So, what amount do you intend for Jameson to propose to me?”
Xandra paused briefly before raising her finger and declaring, “Ten million dollars.”
I burst into laughter, so much so that I was on the verge of tears.
Xandra glared at me. “You think this amount is small? We’re only offering this because you’re helping Jameson make a comeback. If you weren’t the eldest daughter of the Lambert family, you wouldn’t get a thing.”
She approached me arrogantly and threatened, “I have many ways to ensure you don’t get any money and end up in debt!”

In a fit of rage, I found myself laughing. Then, I replied sarcastically, “I’m really scared, Ms. Clark. Please show some mercy and don’t let me leave empty–handed.”
Xandra scoffed. “Wynonna, I know you’re unhappy, but it’s wise to take the money and leave Jameson. If you don’t, you’ll face disgrace and lose everything.”
I grew distant and stated, “Ms. Clark, if you excel in mathematics, you must realize that five years ago, I invested 50 million dollars in Brown Corporation. That 50 million dollars has since transformed into shares that now boast a market value exceeding 100 million dollars.”
I sneered. “This is worth 100 million dollars, and you expect Jameson to give me just ten million to leave? Ms. Clark, your math isn’t adding up.”
Xandra felt ashamed. She clenched her teeth and asked, “How about twenty million dollars? That should be enough, right?”
I scoffed quietly, choosing to remain silent.
Xandra pressed on, attempting to sway my decision. “For the past five years, Jameson has taken great care of you. Furthermore, do you have any proof that the 50 million dollars rightfully belongs to you? If Jameson doesn’t pay you dividends, that money will go to waste.”
I couldn’t help but sneer, but deep down, I felt a profound discomfort. I mourned the person I used to be before losing my memory. I invested my time, my emotions, and even my finances to help Jameson rise again, only to have the mistress confront me directly, threatening to strip away everything I had worked for.
Xandra noticed my silence and assumed I was afraid. With a proud demeanor, she added, “I’ll give you twenty million. It’s enough for a life of wealt
