Chapter 49
I was sick of the constant criticism. Hence, I turned around and retorted with a sneer, “I’m not worthy, but you think you are? Is it that you just want to marry into the Zook family?”
Camila was furious when I revealed her thoughts. She shouted, “Wynonna, you bitch! Do you think everyone is as shameless as you?”
A throbbing pain pulsed through my head, and I was distressed. I had no desire to become entangled with Camila. Just as I was about to walk away, she stopped me. “Stop! Explain yourself.”
I stumbled as she tugged at me, causing my dress to slide down significantly. My shoulders were suddenly exposed to the glaring sun, prompting me to instinctively pull them back. In a fit of anger, I shouted, “What do you think you’re doing?”
Camila was taken aback. The last time she had physically confronted me, she faced the consequences and was expelled from the Zook residence, an experience that left a lasting impression on her. Now, she treated me with much more respect and thought twice before ever laying a hand on me again.
“What a fierce beauty! I love the way you look when you’re angry,” A casual voice remarked, exuding a relaxed tone.
I frowned as a slender figure walked sloppily from the living room door. The backlight
obscured his face with a halo around him.
He wore a light gray casual suit jacket and white suit pants. His shirt was casually unbuttoned two or three notches, while a light gray silk tie hung loosely around his neck, untied. His overall appearance conveyed a relaxed and laid–back style.
As he approached, I finally caught a clear glimpse of his face, and I was utterly captivated. He was strikingly handsome, his chiseled features resembling a work of art.
His pronounced eyebrows arched gracefully over his alluring eyes, which were slightly narrowed in a way that drew me in. His straight nose and sensuous, thin lips enhanced his already enchanting appearance. The delicate charm of his androgynous look only made him. more intriguing.
He gazed at me with a smile, yet that expression felt like a knife piercing through my heart.
I was surprised to see this man who looked similar to Tristan. But while Tristan had a classic, gentle charm, this man had a mix of different ethnic features. I suspected he was connected to the Zook family, as his appearance echoed Tristan’s.
Clearly, Camila felt supported when she spotted him. She hurried over and asked coquettishly, “Uriah, what brings you here?”
Chapter 49
The young man flashed a smile as he gently nudged Camila aside. “How can you argue with such a distinguished guest? Have you forgotten your manners?”
Camila’s expression shifted dramatically as she pointed at me and exclaimed, “Don’t you recognize her? She is Wynonna! I don’t understand why Tristan brought her home.”
The young man approached me, his eyes scanning me with a brazen gaze. I couldn’t tolerate his rudeness, so I turned and walked upstairs with a blank expression.
With a smile, he said, “Hello, Ms. Lambert! Why don’t you introduce yourself? I’m Uriah Zook,
a musician.”
I turned around reluctantly. “Hello, Mr. Zook.”
I glanced at Camila, and then I replied flatly, “I apologize, but I’m not feeling well, so I’ll head upstairs first.”
Noticing that I was about to leave, Camila quickly grabbed Uriah and whispered, “Uriah, get her to leave. Drive her away.”
Uriah ignored her and followed me upstairs. I wanted to act like he wasn’t there, but when he reached the door, I couldn’t hold back. I took a deep breath and asked, “Mr. Zook, what do you
want?”
He grinned and leaned against the door, his captivating eyes growing more mesmerizing.” Nothing. I just wanted to see how beautiful the woman Tristan brought home is.”
