Chapter 52
I lowered my head, avoiding his gaze.
Tristan suddenly asked, “Did Urlah and Camila stop by today?”
I was taken aback. I didn’t expect him to ask about them.
I nodded.
le continued to ask, “Did they say anything unpleasant?”
I shook my head.
He pressed further. “Really? They didn’t say anything at all?”
I shook my head once again.
He studied me carefully before finally responding, “Okay. You should go upstairs and get some
rest.”
I lifted my gaze to look at him, struggling to find the right words I had been rehearsing all
afternoon.
Seeing that I hadn’t moved, Tristan asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick? Or is there something you wanted to say?”
I quickly shook my head. “No. I’m fine. It’s nothing.”
With that, I hurried toward the stairs.
But just as I was about to make my way upstairs, Tristan called after me, “Don’t bother with what Uriah and Camila said. Just ignore them.”
I nodded instinctively.
on to stay.
“Once I finish up with work tomorrow, I’ll start to look for a new place to stay.”
I was taken aback.
He explained, “There’s too many people coming in and out of this place. It’s too chaotic.”
Finally mustering up the courage, I suggested, “Tristan, I actually have a place I can stay at.”
He frowned. “Where?”
“I can stay with Chloe.”
“No way! You’re not staying with Chloe.” Tristan immediately rejected my suggestion
I was taken aback by his reaction. “Why not?”
I had seen Tristan annoyed before, but this was the first time it was directed at me.
Changs
“She has to work. Do you really think she can take care of you?”
I was at a loss for words. Then, I said, “I don’t need anyone to take care of me!”
Iv
Tristan turned toward me and said firmly, “No means no.”
I fell silent.
For the first time, I realized how stubborn Tristan could be. I couldn’t find the words to argue with him, nor did I have the courage to.
He took a brief glance at the calendar hanging on the wall and said, “Go upstairs and get some rest. Please don’t wander around tomorrow. I’ll take you to check out a few places.”
I felt conflicted but didn’t argue further.
Just as I made my way upstairs, I overheard Tristan on the phone.
“Uriah, you’d better stay out of it… It’s none of your business.” His voice was laced with displeasure.
With that, he ended the call abruptly and seemed to glance up at the second floor.
Not wanting to eavesdrop further, I quickly slipped into my room.
When I returned to my room, I collapsed on the bed, feeling a mix of emotions.
There were so many things I wanted to discuss with Tristan, but I always seemed to lose my courage whenever he was around.
I felt so distant from him. It was as if there was an invisible wall between us.
Taking a deep breath, I realized that I needed to handle my problems on my own.
The next morning, I woke up early.
After washing up and getting dressed, Jason performed a daily check–up on me as usual. The checkup was much quicker this time as I didn’t need any more IV drips.
He left me some medication and carefully instructed me on how to take it before leaving.
After breakfast, I went for a walk in the garden and gave Chloe a call.
When she found out that I was now aware of the situation with my family, she let out a sigh..
“Wyn, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I just didn’t want to hurt you while you were still recovering from your memory loss.”
“Chloe, do you have my brother’s phone number?”
She sighed again. “How would I have that?”
My heart sank.
“Isn’t Tristan one of your brother’s good friends? Why don’t you ask him to talk to your brother for you? I’m sure he’s willing to do that for you.”
I bit my lips.
“But he’s already helped me so much. Plus, if my brother was willing to forgive me, he would’ve surely contacted me by now. Since he hasn’t, it looks like he…”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and I struggled to finish my sentence.
