Chapter 6
When I woke up the next morning, it was already 9:00 am. I stretched my sore neck and got ready for the day.
After that, I went downstairs to find the living room empty and someone sitting in the dining area having breakfast. It was Clement.
When he saw me, he let out a huff of disdain and turned away.
My eyes darkened, and I went to the kitchen to get something to eat. There wasn’t much food
-only some cold soup and a few slices of stale bread.
1 frowned slightly. Then, I got a glass of milk from the fridge to heat up and fried two eggs.
As I brought my food out, Clement looked at me as if he had seen a ghost. I frowned and asked, “Why are you looking at me like that? Did I not wash my face properly?”
He pointed at my food. “You can cook?”
His questioning tone made me uncomfortable. “It’s not that hard to fry some eggs.
Clement quickly snapped back to his usual self, glaring at me. “Don’t think you can pull any tricks.”
I slammed my glass of milk down on the dining table with a loud thud, startling him.
He immediately became furious. “What’s your problem? Are you trying to pick a fight?”
I took a sip of my milk and replied coldly, “You’re crazy.”
Clement’s boyish–looking face flushed. “Who are you calling crazy? Don’t think that you can do whatever you want now just because you’re out of the hospital, Wynonna! I’m here to keep an eye on you for Jameson and Xandra. You won’t mess up their relationship again!”
I chuckled, which seemed to confuse him.
“What are you laughing at?” he demanded. “I’m serious! This time, I won’t let you hurt Xandra. Don’t even try to use your spoiled rich–girl act against me. Xandra might be afraid of you, but I’m not.”
“Alright then. Give me the money.” 1 extended my hand toward him.
Clement’s expression changed. He looked as if he knew exactly what my intentions were.
“Money? What money?” he asked sarcastically. “Wynonna, you’re such a gold–digger. You married Jameson to get into our family for the money, didn’t you? You’re shameless.”
Expressionless, I repeated, “Yes, I’m shameless. Now, give me the money.”
Seeing that I wasn’t going to back down, he became flustered. “Money for what?”

I sneered. “What else? The 50 million dollars I invested in Brown Corporation!”
Clement was stunned.
I
rked and continued, “if we go by the percentage of shares, the Brown family owes me a hefty sum of dividend from the 50 million dollars I invested five years ago. And if it was treated as a loan with interest, how much do you think your family owes me now after those five years?”
1 tapped on my phone’s calculator app and entered some numbers. Sneering, I said, “With an interest at about 11% to 12% for large investments… Wow, that’s quite a lot.”
Clement’s handsome face turned from red to pale. He looked like he wanted to swear at me but couldn’t find the words.
Under his shocked gaze, I happily finished my simple breakfast. Then, I wiped my mouth and stood up.
Just then, he finally managed to speak. “Wynonna, you crazy woman! What are you trying to pull?”
I turned to look at him. His face was so different from the one I had remembered. I said softly, “You used to call me ‘Wynnie‘ before.”

Simply eating breakfast was already so exhausting, and it only made me more certain about leaving Jameson.
I called Chloe, and she picked up lazily. “What’s up, Mrs. Brown? Have you made up with Jameson yet?”
“No.”
Her scream pierced through the phone. “What? What did you just say?”
I moved the phone further away from my ear and frowned. “I said, I haven’t made up with him.
Chloe quickly calmed down. “Are you planning to give him the silent treatment? That won’t work. Jameson’s a Scorpio–he’s a master at silent treatments. You’ll lose. Think of another
strategy.”
I sighed. “I–don’t want to make up with him.”
Chloe sounded confused on the other end of the line. “Then what are you trying to do? Oh wait, I know! You’re planning to take down Xandra!”
Her voice became terse. “Wynonna, I’m warning you–murder is illegal. We need to be good, law–abiding citizens.”
I let out another sigh. “Chloe, I’m not plotting against Xandra.”
Chloe seemed to choke on her own saliva. After a long pause, she finally asked, “Wynonna, stop messing around. Tell me what you really want to do.
“Your suicide attempt almost got you viral. You should see what the comments are saying about you. If it weren’t for your family being the major shareholder of media companies and your brother caring about reputation, you would’ve been all over the internet by now.”
I rubbed my forehead in frustration. “Chloe, I really lost my memory. Jameson doesn’t believe me. Do you not believe me too?”
She hesitated and laughed awkwardly. “I thought you were faking it…”
Chloe’s words made me speechless, and I immediately felt a deep sense of sadness. How bad was I before my memory loss that no one would believe me?
Feeling down, I asked, “Chloe, can you take a leave and have a meal with me? I want to talk about what to do next.”
As my best friend, she was still on my side. She sighed and asked, “What are you planning?”
I bit my lip. “I want to divorce Jameson.”
Chloe was shocked to hear that.
Chloe and I decided to meet at a café.
She handed me a bag the moment she saw me. I opened it to find fever patches, a thermometer, and some flu medicine for fever.
“What’s all this for?” I asked.
Chloe pulled out the thermometer and nagged at me, “Take your temperature. There’s been a wave of flu going around. Just check if you’ve caught it.”
I put the thermometer to my ear unwillingly and frowned. “I don’t have a fever. It’s my brain that’s messed up.
She smacked her thigh. “Exactly! What’s gotten into you? You almost gave me a heart attack when you suddenly said you want to divorce Jameson,” she said, patting her chest.
That was when I realized why she had brought the fever medicine. I removed the thermometer, grabbed Chloe’s hand and looked her in the eye. “I’m serious, I want a divorce.”
She was stunned by the determined look on my face.
Chapter 6
We sat for two whole minutes without moving before she blinked and said, “Okay. I get it. Let go of me.‘

I let Chloe go. Immediately, she pulled out her phone and played a voice recording of me
sobbing. “Chloe, I want to divorce Jameson! He doesn’t love me. He bought a birthday gift for that bitch Xandra…”
I froze.
She played another one. “Chloe, I can’t live without Jameson! I’ll die without him, do you understand? I love him so much!”
The recording sounded like I was sobbing uncontrollably, and it continued, “Chloe, I feel so miserable. Why do I feel like this? If I didn’t love him, I wouldn’t have to feel this way…
‘Chloe, I feel so sad. Why doesn’t Jameson answer my calls? Doesn’t he care if I get drunk to death on the street?” Then I heard myself vomit.
Chloe looked at me with a complicated look. “Wynonna, I know you lost your memory. So let me remind you of how deeply you loved Jameson.”
1 covered my face in response. After a long while, I looked up at her helplessly. “Chloe, I’m serious this time. I must divorce Jameson.”
She sighed and scrolled her phone to find more recordings.
1 held her hand down, my voice bitter. “Stop playing them. It’s not funny.”
