Chapter 61
I concentrated on eating for a while. I suddenly remembered that Jameson didn’t know me
well and had no idea what food I liked or disliked.
I became despondent and suddenly asked, “So what are those five years of marriage for?”
Tristan took a sip of champagne and said slowly, “Just take it as you wasted your feelings on someone who didn’t appreciate them.”
I was rendered speechless.
The next day, I got up early and checked my phone, only to find dozens of messages. Most of them were from buyers on the app asking about prices.
I replied to a few buyers who were interested in buying second–hand luxury goods.
For these heavily discounted second–hand luxury goods, some trusted the deals, while others were skeptical.
I didn’t have much recollection about the internet over the past few years. I only remembered when WhatsApp was launched.
I struggled to reply word by word, and before I knew it, it was already noon.
It wasn’t until then that I realized I was so hungry that I started to feel slightly dizzy. I quickly went to the kitchen to see if there was anything to eat.
As soon as I arrived, someone opened the door.
I was startled. A middle–aged woman was carrying bags of vegetables and meat in both hands
as she walked in.
I asked, “Who are you?”
The middle–aged woman greeted me warmly, “Hello, Ms. Lambert, I’m the maid hired by Mr. Zook. You can call me Margaret.”
I immediately realized that this was Tristan’s way of taking care of me.
Margaret was quick and capable. She went straight to the kitchen to cook. After a while, she brought a bowl of beef stew.
She kept apologizing, “I was supposed to arrive at 8:00 am today, but I misread the bus stop sign and missed my stop. You must be starving. Hurry and eat some.”
I took a bite, and my eyes lit up. It was the flavor that I liked.

I ate and asked, “Where are you from, Margaret?
Margaret smiled and mentioned a place.
I was surprised. “We are from the same hometown. My grandma lives there.”
As soon as Margaret heard that my grandma and she were from the same hometown, she instantly warmed up to me.
We had a pleasant conversation.
Margaret suddenly said, “I thought so! Mr. Zook insisted on hiring someone from that place to cook. It turns out that we are from the same place.”
I was taken aback and forced an awkward smile.
As soon as Margaret started tidying, I quickly slipped into my room.
My heart was racing, and I couldn’t tell what I was feeling.
I gently slapped my face and scolded, “I’m a hopeless romantic. Stop it!”
I wasn’t thinking straight. After getting hurt so badly by Jameson, I still found myself having a crush on Tristan.
Although he was kind, outstanding, caring, and protective of me, I didn’t deserve him.
After giving myself a few pep talks, I let out a sigh. That was close–I almost got myself involved in a relationship.

Margaret was good at her work and the meals she prepared were to my liking.
After having a bowl of beef stew for lunch, she prepared some authentic desserts from hometown. She even said I looked tired, so she made me some smoothies.
After drinking two glasses of smoothies, she brought out a bowl of guacamole.

I suspected that she might have emptied the pantry in the Zook residence before she came here.
Margaret looked pleased when she saw me finish everything. “Mr. Zook told me to take good care of you. You are too thin. Men don’t like women who are too skinny.”
I was embarrassed. “I’m not anyone special to him…”
