Chapter 66
Chloe suddenly called me, “What happened between you and Jameson? He found my number today and got mad at me.
Hearing Jameson’s name almost gave me post–traumatic stress disorder.
I hurried to the balcony to answer the call, “Why did he lose his temper?”
Chloe complained, “He said it’s all my fault that you turned out like this.”
I was angry. “Doesn’t he know what he has done? What a shameless jerk–trying to shift the blame onto others.”
Chloe said, “That’s exactly what I told him too. Guess what happened next?”
I asked, “What did he do?”
Chloe sighed. “He called my boss and told him to put me on unpaid leave.
“Oh no!” I was shocked. “How could he be that shameless?”
Chloe didn’t mind and said, “It’s just unpaid leave. I’m not scared. I was actually thinking of taking a break and going on vacation anyway.”
After I heard that, I felt bad for her.
Chloe was dragged into this because of me. Although she sounded relaxed, I knew it was bothering her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have called me. Instead, she would just quietly put up
with it.
I immediately said, “Come and stay at my place for a couple of days. We can figure out what to do next.”
Chloe asked with hesitation, “Are you sure you have a room for me at your new place?”
I was puzzled. “Yes. Why not? There are plenty of unused rooms.”
Chloe hesitated. “But will I disturb Tristan and you while you guys are dating?”
I said, “What are you talking about? We are not dating!”
This was insane! I wondered why everyone around me thought we had a thing for each other.
I suddenly remembered Margaret told me that Tristan didn’t look at me with an innocent gaze.
I didn’t want this to happen, so I hurriedly said to Chloe, “Hurry and come here! You should stay with me. I was just wishing I had someone to stay with me. I’m scared to live alone in this huge house.”
Seeing that I was persistent, Chloe stopped being difficult. She gladly agreed to pack her
things and come over.
I breathed a sigh of relief and walked toward the living room.
Tristan was still watching the television. Then, he was doing a few things on his tablet from
time to time.
I glanced at it and felt giddy.
I guessed I wasn’t cut out for something that was meant for intelligent people.
When Tristan saw me come back, he asked, “Who called you?”
I hesitated momentarily before I told him what happened to Chloe.
Tristan calmly adjusted his glasses and said, “It’s fine if she stays with you for a while. I have a business trip in the next two days, so I can’t keep you company.”
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I hurriedly said, “It’s okay. You don’t have to accompany me if you are busy. I can manage on my own. Besides, I have Chloe with me.”
Tristan stood up and walked up to me.
His tall, slender figure gave off an oppressive vibe.
I glanced up at him.
Tristan looked at me condescendingly and curled his lip. “I felt uneasy about you two being together. Have you forgotten what happened last time?”
I instantly understood the trouble I had gotten myself into just by looking into his gaze.
I felt embarrassed and said, “That was thoughtless of me, but I managed to get my things back. Otherwise, Xandra would have walked in and taken everything.”
The longer I thought about it, the more I was convinced that I was right.
Tristan adjusted his glasses and said, “You honestly think you did the right thing?”
I protested, “But those are my stuff and my money!”
“Okay, it’s your stuff and money. They are all yours.” Tristan stroked my hair and smiled, as if looking at a stubborn child.
