Chapter 72
The tall man immediately seized the opportunity to jump back into his car and flee the scene. Chloe and I were nervous as we sat in the passenger seat, having squeezed in together.
The tall man took us through several twists and turns to a desolated area before he finally stopped the car. Once the door was open, Chloe and I immediately got out, shivering from the
adrenaline.
The tall man pulled out a cigarette after he got out of his car, smiling at me as he did so. “Man, Wyn, how do you think you should be thanking me for saving you today?”
Wyn? An ominous shiver ran down my spine. I recognized this man now.
“Uriah? Uriah Zook?” I asked.
“That’s me, alright.” Uriah leaned against his car as he lit his cigarette. He had an odd smile on his face. “I’m a little upset that you didn’t recognize me earlier.”
I felt awkward. “I wasn’t able to pay attention because of all the people earlier. Uh… thanks for saving us just now.”
“Uh, who exactly are you?” Chloe asked.
Uriah grinned. “Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Ms. Lambert’s admirer. You may call me Uriah.” With his cigarette in his mouth, he bowed.
My face burned. “H–hey, don’t give her the wrong idea. Chloe, this is Tristan’s younger
brother.”
“I’m just telling the truth. Have you received the flowers I sent you, Wyn?” Uriah asked.
My eyes widened. “Yes, I did. You sent them?‘
Uriah’s eyes crinkled even more as his smile widened. “Who else could it be? My brother’s a smart one. He immediately guessed that it was me.”
Now that shocked me. “He knew it was you? Why didn’t he tell me?”
Uriah grinned. “Why would he tell you? He’d just hold a grudge against me before waiting for the chance to put me in my place,” he said as he pouted, seemingly displeased with Tristan’s
actions.
Things just felt awkward.
Chloe tugged on my sleeve. “We should go back.
Uriah glanced at us through the corners of his eyes. “You’re leaving? Just like that?”
“Uh… We’ll find a way to thank you another day. We really should go back now. It’s not safe to
be out so late at night,” I replied.
Uriah grinned again. “With me around, no one in Cranbel will dare to lay a hand on either of you.”
“Then, can you help Wyn to teach that jerk Jameson a lesson?” Chloe blurted out again.
Uriah laughed. “I’m afraid not.”
Chloe was angry. “Why not?”
Uriah shot an ambiguous look at me. “Because Tristan wants to do it himself. He won’t let anyone get in his way.”
I was shocked by this revelation. Chloe was as well. She regarded Uriah with a suspicious look. ” How did you know this? Just how? Jameson’s famous enough…‘

Uriah’s grin remained on his face. “Famous? I can squash him with just a single finger. Still, Tristan wants to be the one to do the honors. I’m not going to be fighting with him on that.”
This was huge news. I couldn’t believe it. If Uriah weren’t Tristan’s brother, I would have over to the police to report Tristan for fraud.
I lost interest in this matter, even as Chloe still enthusiastically questioned Uriah for more information. I grabbed her arm and turned to leave.
gone
Uriah stepped forward to block our path. “Don’t go just yet. We already came all the way here, so let’s have a drink together.”
I frowned. “I don’t drink.”
Chloe clearly wanted to fo, but she knew that she couldn’t follow Uriah when she noticed my
expression.
Uriah’s smile was beautiful as the moonlight shone above him. He was a dreamy sight as he asked, “What’s your favorite flower, Wyn?”
That question threw me in for a loop. I collected myself and frowned. “Don’t call me that. We’re not close. Call me Ms. Lambert instead, Mr.Zook!” I made sure to emphasize “Mr. Zook
Something complicated flashed across Uriah’s eyes. He seemed fascinated as he looked at me.
My mouth was dry as I said, “I’ll find a way to repay you for tonight, but it’s really late now. We should go home.” With that, I flagged down taxi and left with Chloe, as though we were escaping with our lives.
I peered at Uriah through the window, only to see him lean against that black Ferrari of his with a grin.
How odd.
But I quickly made myself stop thinking about him.
