Chapter 73
I didn’t sleep well that night. I dreamed that Uriah helped me out by beating up this guy who hit on me. But when I turned, I saw Tristan quietly watching from the sidelines.
“Tristan!” I called out before running over, but he looked at me with a displeased expression.
“How did you get into trouble again?” he asked.
Just as I was about to explain, Jameson popped out of nowhere and stalked over. He then grabbed my hand to scold me. “In hot water again, aren’t you? When will you stop stirring up trouble?”
I struggled to escape his grip and stated loudly, “I don’t need you to look out for me! Let go of
me!”
Jameson stared at me in disgust. “Are you done being a troublemaker? You keep getting into situation after situation. Haven’t you thought about how your friends are being affected?”
I looked away, only to see Chloe being dragged away. I panicked at the sight. “I’m no troublemaker. I’m not. They were the ones harassing us in the first place!” I insisted.
But no one came to rescue Chloe. I tried to save her, but Jameson had my arm in a vice grip.
I cried in infuriation, “Unhand me, Jameson!”
“If yo
you hadn’t led them on, they wouldn’t have harassed you, wouldn’t they? You’ve really sunk to new lows over the years,” Jameson said irritatedly.
“No, I didn’t! I didn’t…” I screamed.
“Wyn!” Someone called me.
I woke up with a start, only to see Chloe looking at me in worry. I let out a long sigh before flopping back onto my bed.
“It was a nightmare,” I stated.
Chloe looked guilty. “It’s my fault. If I hadn’t insisted on dragging you to that restaurant, this wouldn’t have happened. You must have been in such shock.”
“It’s okay. We came out alright, didn’t we?” I consoled her.
Chloe still wasn’t reassured. “I was a big idiot. I hadn’t realized how much danger we were in, but I’m getting the shivers now that I think back on it. How could pretty girls like us go to
such a shady place for food? It’s a dangerous place.”
I couldn’t stop myself from bursting into laughter.
Chloe was not amused by my laughter. “What’s so funny? That’s the truth. Just look at how
T
pretty we are. We shouldn’t just go to any dingy little place. We girls have to look out for
ourselves.”
My belly ached from laughing too much. “That’s a weird way to say that you’re pretty. Still, you have a point. We have to look out for ourselves.”
Chloe hugged a pillow as she scooted closer to me. “That Uriah is such a gorgeous guy. He also seemed like a playboy. Is he interested in you? Did he really give you flowers?”
I didn’t want to explain the incident with the flowers, so I just told her the gist of it.
Just then, Margaret knocked on the door. “Ms. Lambert, someone has sent you flowers.”
Chloe perked up. “Speak of the devil. It has to be from that guy, Uriah. You really are a lucky girl, Wyn.”
I got out of bed. Indeed, there was a bouquet of white roses waiting for me. There were a total of seven roses, with a few other small flowers interspersed through the bouquet.
I loved it at first sight.
“Is there a card?” I asked Margaret, and she handed it to me. My smile grew as I read the card. Tristan was the sender this time.
Chloe leaned over to try and read the card, so I quickly stuffed it into the pocket. Sensing that something was up, she pasted a simper on her face. “Who was it? Show me the card, now!”
My ears burned. “It’s… someone you don’t know
Chloe laughed. “Come on, how could it be someone I don’t know? I know all of your
acquaintances, and besides, I’m the only best friend you have. You don’t have any male friends. either. Who else could have sent those flowers?”
But then Chloe thought over her words before apologizing to me. “Don’t be angry with me, Wyn. I’m not saying that no one would ever be interested in you.”
I had an idea as to why she apologized. My lack of male friends was because I spent the last seven years of my life chasing after Jameson and licking his boots like a fool.
However, I didn’t mind Chloe’s words.
My mood having lifted, I looked around for a vase to put the roses in.
