Chapter 74
All seven roses were in full bloom. I drank in their beauty.
you realized something?”
All of a sudden, Chloe got close to me. “Hey Wyn have you
“What?” I asked.
Chloe pointed at my face. “Take a look in the mirror.”
Confused, I did as she said, only to go stiff. In the mirror was a happy woman with her eyes crinkled and her lips curved up in an uncontrollable smile.
I looked completely different from when I was discharged from hospital last week. I had been a tired, depressed woman with no life in her eyes. But now, I looked alive and happy, and my eyes sparkled.
I couldn’t help but reach up to touch my face, stunned as I was by my reflection.
Chloé pressed closer. “Come on, was it Tristan who sent you those flowers?”
1 screamed mentally before scrambling to make up a lie. “This is a gift from this bakery I went
- to. They give out flowers to their VIP customers on their birthday.”
Chloe seemed dubious. “Really now?”
I nodded so that she wouldn’t dig any deeper.
Chloe was disappointed, but then she frowned. “Wait a minute, it’s not your birthday yet!”
“Huh? Isn’t my birthday this month? I forgot about that, actually. Uh, well, never mind. The bakery was running this promotional campaign anyway, so I just picked some flowers for myself,” I lied. Without caring whether Chloe believed me, I pushed her away before dashing to my bedroom and locking the door.
I didn’t know whether Chloe believed that lie.
Margaret walked over to Chloe after I had locked myself in my room.
“Does she have something to hide?” Chloe asked.
Margaret was all smiles. “I have no idea. I only came in right before she went back to her room.
“Is Tristan nice to Wyn? Is he actually… interested in her? Like, romantically?”
Margaret had a serious look on her face. “Mr. Zook is a proper and upstanding man. He is different from many other young men.”
Chloe didn’t dare to ask any further.

Meanwhile, back inside my room, I pulled out the card again.
“Congratulations on moving into your new home. May your new life be full of joy. From, Tristan.”
Tristan’s penmanship was beautiful. His loops were neat, and everything was evenly spaced.
The card itself was an ordinary one, but I still looked around for a book to store it in. I had no idea why I was doing this, but my instincts told me that I had to put the card away safely, because it was a symbol of future joy.
I was lost in my thoughts when I heard the doorbell ring. Thinking that it was Tristan, I quickly changed into a simple but pretty dress. As I wrestled with my hair, I heard someone. yelling outside.
I froze. This was not Tristan.
Comb still in hand, I exited my room, only to see Xandra standing by the door to my home. Chloe blocked her path with a dirty look on her face.
“Are you some kind of bloodhound, Xandra? How in the world did you even find this place? Be honest: you got someone to track us down, didn’t you?” Chloe did not hold back.
Xandra was dressed in a custom black and white Chanel ensemble. She looked like she was going to a funeral.
I averted my gaze in disgust.
Xandra’s eyes lit up when she noticed me. “Ms. Lambert, don’t get the wrong idea. I only found out where you live because I… ended up seeing your address on Jameson’s phone.”
I frowned. “But I’ve never told him my address. Has he been keeping tabs on me?”
“I don’t know.” Xandra sounded hurt. “I unwittingly noticed Jameson chatting with someone else, and that was when I found your address.”
Unwittingly?
I let out a cold chuckle. “Unwittingly, you say. Does he know that you’ve been snooping through his phone?”
