Chapter 75
Xandra’s deliberately crafted expression of helplessness instantly shattered. I could see the darkness in her eyes.
This woman was no simple person. Even though she controlled him, Jameson still had no idea. he was dancing in her palm. He probably thought Xandra a simpleton. He had no idea that she was actually a dangerous snake instead.
If Xandra was able to sneak a look at Jameson’s phone, that meant that she was able to see company secrets, plans, and even financials.
I took a step back once everything fell into place.
Xandra weakly spoke up. “I came here personally to prove my sincerity. I just wanted to make up with you, Ms. Lambert.”
Before Chloe could stand up for me, I frowned. “But Ms. Clark, if this is about that suggestion of yours from before, then there’s nothing for us to further discuss. That is between me and Jameson only. And besides, I don’t want to be friends with you. We’re not even good acquaintances, because we have never gotten along once.”
Chloe was about to clap for me from the sidelines
To my surprise, Xandra replied evenly, “Indeed, we’re not friends. In fact, I know that you hold a deep grudge against me because of a misunderstanding from the past. Even so, hiding from the truth will not solve anything. If you want to divorce Jameson, shouldn’t you make sure that this is done properly?”
“What do you mean? I don’t get it,” I said.
Xandra chuckled. “In other words, you should let the public know that your feeling
for
Jameson have ended and that you intend to divorce him. That’s the only way Jameson will believe you and allow the marriage to end.” She then put on a caring tone. “Think about it. Isn’t this how it should be done?”
“Don’t fall for it, Wyn! She’s just putting thoughts in your head. She’s definitely up to no good,
“Chloe warned.
I fell into deep thought.
“Abandon your past plans, Ms. Lambert. That is not the way you should be doing things. Jameson already doesn’t trust you, so he just thinks that you are simply stirring trouble up,” Xandra cooed,
“He said that he won’t agree to a divorce, didn’t he?” I asked seriously.
Exasperation and hatred flashed across Xandra’s eyes before she said in a neutral tone, “Yes. Jameson said that it’ll be expensive to divorce you. From both an economical and emotional
perspective, he will not do it.”
I was confused. “Emotional perspective? Does he even feel anything for me anymore?”
Xandra’s body language seemed suspicious. “I don’t know either. Anyway, I know that I barged into your home, but I hope that you’ll consider what I’ve said.” She then handed me an
intricate invitation.
I glanced at it, only to realize that it was for a party. I studied the card, wondering whether I
should toss the invitation while Xandra was here, or to wait until she had left.
“Jameson is holding this party for me,” Xandra said gently. “I hope that you’ll come. By the way, it’s best if you can bring a male companion with you.”
She batted her eyes at me before leaving with a swish of her skirt.
Once Xandra had left, Chloe immediately shut the door and rubbed her arms. “Holy crap, that woman really is something. To think that she’s nutty enough to come over and tell you how to escape from Jameson. I should have recorded the whole exchange and sent it to him.”
I shook my head. “But don’t you think that she has a point?”
Chloe waved a hand in front of me. “Wake up, Wyn! Don’t fall for that snake’s deception. I bet she has an ulterior motive for inviting you to the party.”
I ran my fingers across the invitation. “But what if Tristan comes with me?”
“Huh?” Chloe was shocked, but then she guffawed. “Okay, that’s a great idea! Jameson’s going to be so pissed.” After her laughter died down, realization dawned on her. “So, is this Xandra’s goal?”
My expression remained neutral. “No matter how you look at it, she cannot wait to marry Jameson. She invited me to her party so that I would provoke Jameson into leaving me.”
Chloe let out a sigh. “That’s a snake for you, alright. No wonder you couldn’t beat her last time.
I stared at the invitation. It felt like an eyesore. A familiar dull pain thrummed in my chest. I probably would have been heartbroken as well before my amnesia, wouldn’t I? To see my beloved husband throw a grand party for another woman?
I had no idea how deeply I loved Jameson before I lost my memories, but my heart constantly ached after my amnesia. This body remembered.
I felt extremely dissatisfied with my past self.
Tristan returned late tonight.
