Chapter 77
I slept soundly that night. My sleep was entirely dreamless. I didn’t know if Tristan would agree to go with me to Chloe’s party, but I knew that I no longer had to think about that question, now that I had told him.
I
When I woke up the next day, I got on my phone as usual. Someone had called me a few times earlier, and I didn’t recognize the number. I also noticed that I had quite a few new friend requests on Facebook. They were all strangers to me.
My gaze darkened as I blocked them all. These were most likely Jameson’s accounts. He probably got a new phone number or five.
I didn’t want to have any contact with him, because he always acted like a self–righteous man
whenever we were in the same room.
It was time for me to change my phone number.
Having made up my mind, I got out of bed to freshen myself up before heading out of my
room for breakfast.
Chloe and Margaret were eating and chatting when I made my way over. When Chloe saw me, she grinned. “Good morning, my fair lady! What are your plans for the day? Your humble servant shall endeavor to fulfill your every wish!!
I couldn’t stop myself from giggling at Chloe’s antics as I sat down to grab a sandwich. “I’m thinking of selling off the rest of my luxury collection. We’re going to sell the jewelry today.
Chloe frowned. “But the resale value for jewelry is pretty low. They may have cost 20,000 or 30,000 brand new, but you can only get 10 or 20% of its original value when you try to sell them. That’s only 2,000 or 3,000 dollars.
“Why don’t you hold onto them for yourself? You have some money on hand now anyway. Your don’t have to liquidate more items that soon.”
I shook my head. “No. Seeing them brings back uncomfortable memories.”
Chloe sighed. “Alright then. Guess we’re selling them off.”
I nodded, but then I quickly added, “Oh right, could you come with me to shop for a dress?”
Chloe was on high alert. “Are you going to Xandra’s party?”
Hesitantly, I nodded.
“Just pick a gown that you’ve never worn before from your wardrobe. Knowing Xandra, she’s sure to be dressed to impress at her own party,” Chloe immediately replied.
I had to nod at her answer.
Chapter 27
“Just take my advice Don’t go to that party. This is clearly a trap. You’ll definitely be playing into Xandra’s hands. It’s not worth it,” Chloe tried to convince me.
With that reasoning,
I decided to cancel my plans to attend Xandra’s party.
After we finished breakfast, Chloe and I sorted my jewelry before heading out to the preloved. luxury goods store we had visited the other day. We were promptly invited to the VIP room upon our arrival.
This time, we were greeted by a different appraiser, an older man. He carefully studied the jewelry I had brought before nodding.
“From my initial appraisal, these seem genuine. However, I will need to further appraise the more expensive ones to determine their authenticity.”
I took out the receipts. “They are definitely the real thing.”
The appraiser took a look and nodded. “Indeed, they are. However, may I ask you a question, Ms. Lambert? Why do you want to sell these jewelry items?
“After all, these jewelry pieces do not usually fetch a high price when they are sold in the secondhand market, even if they are from reputable stores. Personally, I think that you should keep them for yourself, if money is not a concern for you,” he advised me..
I shook my head. “I don’t want them anymore.”
Seeing how stubborn I was, the appraiser didn’t try to change my mind again.
All of a sudden, the door swung open with a bang.
“She’s definitely in desperate need of money. Why else would she be selling them?” Natasha’s voice echoed eerily.
I frowned as I looked up from the counter.
