Chapter 85
I lowered my head, picking at my fingernails.
Chloe was worried to see how upset I was. She comforted me, saying, “Don’t be so downcast. You should’ve seen how furious Charles was when he found out Jameson had taken you. He wanted to make Jameson pay dearly for it.”
I cheered up a bit after hearing that.
Then, Chloe asked again, “So, what’s your plan now?”
I looked up at Chloe and said determinedly, “Recover from my injuries, find a lawyer, and file for a divorce.”
My superficial wounds were healing well. However, due to the head injury that I sustained during the fall from the second floor, Jason was hesitant to discharge me.
I had to be hospitalized for further monitoring and a full physical examination.
Jason sighed deeply when he saw my bandaged head.
I forced a smile. “Thanks for taking care of me, Dr. Ward.”
“No problem,” he replied casually while adjusting his surgical gloves.
I looked at his detached expression and began to feel uneasy. My recent injuries had caused Jason a lot of trouble. He was always there to take care of my wounds.
I cautiously explained, “Dr. Ward, I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
Jason nodded. “I know,” he said. “You were just unlucky to run into a scumbag. If he causes you any more trouble, I wouldn’t mind finding an opportunity to perform a ‘humanitarian surgery‘ on him.”
I was taken aback. Jason wasn’t the type of person to meddle in other people’s business. He always did his job and kept to himself.
But this time…
“What do you mean by ‘humanitarian surgery‘?” I asked.
As Jason sorted through the medicines and syringes, he explained coldly, “A ‘humanitarian surgery‘ is for those with too many scumbag factors in their bodies. These factors result in
abnormal behavior.
“For those wrecks, the only solution is to surgically remove any organs and cells that could lead to criminal activity.”

I was at a loss for words. “That’s brutal,” I thought to myself.
After Jason finished with the medicine, he gave me a gentle smile. “Next time, if that scumbag tries to hurt you, let me know right away, okay?”
I felt a warmth spread in my heart. Just then, Jason gently ruffled my hair, as if I were a little
sister. It was unusual for him to be so tender.
“I know what you’ve been through,” he said. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you, just like Mr. Zook
does. After all, we’re friends.”
I couldn’t help but give him a gentle side hug. “Thank you,” I said.
Jason pushed me away with mock annoyance. “I’m wearing a surgical gown, and you’ve gotten it dirty,” he complained.
After inserting the IV line, he added, “Hang in there. Everything’s going to be okay.”
My eyes welled up with tears.
Jason was probably my first true friend besides Chloe. It felt so good to have someone like him in my life.
While recovering in the hospital, I reached out to the legal counsel of Zook Corporation with Tristan’s help.
Chloe told me that Jameson was released after only five days in detention.
She was furious. “He’s suspected of abduction and rape. How could the police let him go just like that?” she exclaimed.
Shaun Collins, one of the lawyers from the legal team, gently explained, “Since they’re
married, Mr. Brown’s legal team argues that it was merely a marital dispute. He only admitted to aggressive behavior but firmly denied the other two accusations.”
Chloe yelled, “Just because he denies it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen! He abducted Wyn, and
.and…”
Shaun shook his head. “There’s really nothing we can do about this. Since they’re married, the villa where Mr. Brown took Ms. Lambert is their shared property. The police can only conclude that it was a marital dispute.”
After listening to Shaun’s words, Chloe was so angry that she slammed her fist on the table.
Lizzie Hughes, the lawyer standing nearby, suddenly spoke up. “Ms. Thompson, a marriage certificate can often allow men who commit violence or crimes to face only partial punishment. Sometimes, they receive none at all. This happens all the time.”
Chloe looked at Lizzie, believing that despite her professional explanation, the female lawyer

seemed to be holding back a deeper emotion.
“Mr. Collins, do you mean I shouldn’t pursue legal action against Jameson for abduction, and … and… attempted rape?” I asked softly.
Shaun nodded. “I suggest that from now on, we focus on the divorce proceedings. We need to figure out which of Mr. Brown’s assets rightfully belong to you.”
