Chapter 99
Jameson and Xandra’s retreating figures seemed rather embarrassed.
Mr. Bloom shook his head and sighed. “This man can’t take a loss.”
Next to him, Mr. Langford sighed as well. “That young lady of Jameson’s has a lot of tricks up
her sleeve.”
Tristan said to the two gentlemen, “Actually, Mr. Brown is capable when it comes to business. It’s just that he seems to lack insight when it comes to relationships.”
Mr. Bloom chuckled. “If he can’t figure out such a simple matter, what can we expect from him in greater affairs?”
Mr. Langford added, “I used to think Jameson was capable and hardworking, but it seems he still lacks a certain depth.”
The two gentlemen exchanged knowing glances and shook their heads at the same time.
I felt a stirring in my heart and looked at Tristan, who wore a neutral expression. He was still speaking up for Jameson. But after what just happened, Jameson’s long–built reputation and credibility in the business world were likely starting to falter.
Who came out the winner in this situation? I suddenly realized that Tristan seemed more like a silent predator.
Uriah had said that Tristan would deal with Jameson himself. At the time, I thought it was a joke, but I’ve come to realize it wasn’t.
As I sat in the car leaving the restaurant, I fell into a quiet contemplation. To say I was thinking would be a stretch because my mind was simply jumbled with thoughts.
The only tangible thing was the check for 100 thousand dollars in my hand which gave me a sense of reality.
“Are you tired?” Tristan leaned in thoughtfully and draped a shawl over my shoulders that had been prepared in the car.
The shawl was cashmere–light and soft. It had the scent of pine and cypress that lingered from him.
I buried myself under the shawl and whispered, “How could he be that kind of person?”
I hadn’t mentioned who I meant, but Tristan understood immediately.
He replied slowly, “Some people are viewed through rose–colored glasses, making it hard to see their true character.”

I felt sad at that. “I don’t understand why I fell for someone I didn’t even know well.”
Tristan noticed my low spirit and chuckled lightly. “Alright, don’t dwell on it. Look, you just got 100 thousand dollars from him. You’ve regained some losses.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. Indeed, money was a universal remedy for happiness.
I focused on the check in my hand and smiled. “If Xandra could keep framing me, lost 100 thousand dollars to me each time, that would be great.”
and Jameson
Unexpectedly, Tristan didn’t laugh. He gently ruffled my hair, and he said half–seriously and half–teasingly, “Silly, I don’t want you to get hurt. We’re not trying to earn this kind of money.
I stuck my tongue out at him teasingly.
Tristan held my hand and looked into my eyes. “Wyn, we’re not short on money. We don’t need to provoke him for it.”
I nodded, half believing. Tristan knew that I didn’t completely believe him on the matter.
He wrapped his arms around me gently. “My silly Wyn, you still haven’t grown up.”
Meanwhile, Jameson was driving down the highway with Xandra in the passenger seat, speeding recklessly.
Xandra’s face was pale as she gripped the back of her seat tightly.
Finally, Jameson slammed on the brakes. His expression was icy as he stared ahead.
Xandra couldn’t help but cry. “Jameson, don’t be like this. It’s really scary.”
Jameson didn’t look at her and only spat out two words. “Get out.”
Xandra was taken aback. “Why should I get out? I won’t. Jameson, don’t leave me here. I’m scared. It’s dark and empty!”
