I stood perfectly still as Declan Donovan and I locked eyes across the platform. The gymnasium buzzed with anticipation, hundreds of spectators holding their breath. After witnessing Lucas Rhodes’s humiliating defeat, they were eager to see if the master could restore the Donovan family honor.
Declan circled me warily, his experienced eyes searching for any weakness. Unlike his student Lucas, he didn’t rush in blindly. Decades of combat had taught him caution.
“Stop prolonging the inevitable,” I said, my voice carrying across the silent room. “Everyone’s waiting.”
His jaw tightened. “Arrogant whelp. I was breaking bones before you were born.”
“And yet here we are,” I replied calmly. “You, making excuses. Me, waiting.”
A vein throbbed in his temple. His daughter Nora shouted from the sidelines, “Father, destroy him! Show everyone what happens to people who disrespect the Donovan
name!”
That seemed to snap something in him. With a warrior’s cry, Declan finally attacked, his movements fluid and precise. His fist cut through the air with blinding speed, aimed directly at my throat – a potentially lethal strike.
I didn’t dodge. I simply caught his fist in my palm.
The impact echoed through the gymnasium like a thunderclap, but I didn’t budge an inch. Declan’s eyes widened in disbelief as he tried to pull away, but I held his fist firmly.
“Impossible,” he whispered. “My Inner Strength…”
“Is nothing compared to mine,” I finished for him.
With deliberate slowness, I began to squeeze. Declan’s face contorted in pain as the bones in his hand creaked under pressure. He dropped to one knee, trying to relieve
the strain.
“You called me hired help, I said conversationally, loud enough for everyone to ear.

“You accused Marcus of corruption. You tried to preserve your reputation through lies
rather than skill.”
Sweat beaded on his forehead as he struggled against my grip. “Release me!” he hissed.
“Not until you’ve learned your lesson.”
I suddenly released his hand and, in the same motion, delivered a palm strike to his chest. The blow sent him skidding backward across the platform. Unlike with Lucas, I controlled my strength enough that Declan remained on his feet, though he was visibly shaken.
“Is that all you have?” he snarled, his pride wounded more than his body. He charged again, this time unleashing a flurry of strikes – punches, kicks, elbow strikes – his famous “Thunderstorm Barrage” that had supposedly never failed to overwhelm an
opponent.
To the audience, it must have looked impressive. To me, it was like watching a child swing wildly. I dodged or blocked each attack effortlessly, not even bothering to
counter.
“Stand still and fight!” Declan roared in frustration.
“As you wish.”
I stopped moving and allowed his next punch to land squarely on my chest. The impact made a dull thudding sound. Declan’s triumphant expression quickly turned to horror as he realized his best strike had no effect whatsoever.
“My turn,” I said quietly.
My movement was almost too fast for the audience to see – a simple palm strike to his shoulder. But the force behind it was calculated precisely. There was a sickening crack as his collar bone snapped. Declan howled in pain, staggering backward.
“Father!” Nora screamed from the sidelines.
I gave him no time to recover. With two quick steps, I closed the distance between us and swept his legs out from under him. As he fell, I grabbed his right leg and twisted.
Another crack echoed through the gymnasium as his leg broke cleanly at the shin.
“STOP!” he screamed, his face contorted in agony.

“Wasn’t it your daughter who ordered Lucas to break my legs?” I asked, loud enough for everyone to hear. “I’m simply returning the favor.”
Before he could respond, I repeated the process with his left leg. The sound of breaking bone was followed by Declan’s agonized scream.
The audience watched in horrified silence. Some looked away. Others couldn’t tear their eyes from the spectacle.
I stepped back, looking down at the once–proud master. “The difference between us isn’t just strength, Declan. It’s character. You built your reputation on bullying others and crushing opponents. When faced with defeat, you resorted to lies.”
Nora rushed onto the platform, falling to her knees beside her father. She glared up me, tears streaming down her face. “You monster! You didn’t have to go this far!”
“Your father challenged me by questioning my victory,” I replied calmly. “Your family threatened to break my legs. Actions have consequences, Miss Donovan. Remember
that.”
I turned away from them, walking toward Marcus Valerius, who stood at the edge of the platform with an expression of shock and awe.

official declaration.
As medical staff rushed to attend to Declan, whispers erupted throughout the gymnasium. The mighty Declan Donovan, defeated in less than a minute. Both his legs broken. The Donovan family’s reputation shattered as completely as their patriarch’s
bones.
Marcus clapped me on the shoulder as I stepped down from the platform. “That was… incredible,” he said, his voice low. “But also terrifying. Where did you learn to fight like
that?”
I gave him a small smile. “That’s a story for another time.”
We walked away from the commotion, leaving the Donovans to deal with their very public fall from grace. The crowd parted before us, people staring at me with a mixture of fear and respect.
Once we were in a quieter corner of the gymnasium, Marcus turned to face me. “Liam,

“I was happy to help.”
Marcus hesitated, then reached into his jacket and pulled out a document. “I want to offer you something. This is a contract giving you ten percent ownership in the Valerius Family Martial Arts School. With your skill and our resources, we could dominate the martial world in Havenwood City.”
I took the document, genuinely surprised by his generosity. “This is unexpected:
“It’s the least I can do. Your victory today will bring us more students than we can handle.” His eyes gleamed with excitement. “Would you consider teaching some classes? The chance to learn from someone with your abilities would attract students from across the country.”
Before I could respond, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I glanced at the screen and felt my heart skip a beat. Isabelle Ashworth.
“Excuse me,” I said to Marcus, stepping away to answer the call.
“Liam?” Isabelle’s melodic voice came through the speaker, instantly warming something inside me.
“Isabelle. This is a pleasant surprise.”
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything important,” she said.
I glanced back at the gymnasium, where medical staff were still attending to Declan Donovan. “Not at all. What can I do for you?”
There was a brief pause. “I know this is last–minute, but I’ve been invited to the Summers Foundation Annual Ball tomorrow evening. It’s one of the biggest social events in Havenwood City, and…” She hesitated, her voice suddenly less confident. “I was wondering if you might accompany me?”
I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face. “I’d be honored.”
“Really?” The relief in her voice was palpable. “Thank you, Liam. The ball starts at eight. I can text you the details.”
“I’ll be ready,” I assured her.

After we hung up, I returned to Marcus, who raised an eyebrow at my expression.
“Good news?” he asked.
“Isabelle Ashworth just invited me to the Summers Foundation Ball tomorrow evening”
Marcus’s eyes widened slightly. “The Summers Ball is the social event of the season. Only the elite of Havenwood are invited.” He smiled knowingly. “And from your expression, I’m guessing Miss Ashworth means more to you than just a business
connection.”
I didn’t confirm or deny it, but my silence was answer enough.
“In that case,” Marcus said, gesturing to the contract in my hand, “take this with you. Look it over when you have time. And as for dinner tonight to celebrate your victory…”
“I’m afraid I’ll have to postpone,” I said apologetically. “I need to prepare for tomorrow.”
Marcus nodded with understanding. “Then I won’t disturb Mr. Knight’s wonderful time.” His eyes twinkled with amusement. “Especially not when it involves one of the most beautiful and powerful women in the city.”
As I walked out of the gymnasium, the contract tucked safely away and thoughts of Isabelle filling my mind, I couldn’t help but marvel at how quickly life could change. Just weeks ago, I was the laughingstock of the Sterling family, powerless and humiliated. Now, powerful martial arts masters feared me, business owners offered me partnerships, and Isabelle Ashworth–the woman who had captured my heart–had invited me to be her date at the most prestigious social event in the city.
Tomorrow night would be different from today’s violent confrontation. No broken bones or public humiliations. Just Isabelle, me, and whatever the evening might bring. The thought made me smile wider than any victory in the ring ever could.
