TARA
Buy me a what?
I don’t think I heard him right, but did Aidan Graham just say he was going to buy me a house?
Heck no.
I was about to start arguing, rightfully so, because he was out of his thoughts to just decide out of the blue that he would buy a house for me, but Aidan was gone before I could get a word.
out.
A humorless laugh rumbled from my chest, and I stared at Nadia who was still half asleep on my lap, oblivious to the chaos going on around her.
“Can you believe this guy?” I asked out loud, knowing that I wasn’t going to get any response from anyone.
Folding my hands across my chest, or rather, Aidan’s shirt, I
went mute.
The material of the shirt was soft on my skin, giving a stark contrast to the very hard surface that was Aidan’s bare chest.
Unconsciously, I inhaled deeply, forcing Aidan’s perfect scent up my nostrils.
Christ.

I almost messed up by throwing myself over to him when he unexpectedly took his shirt off.
Why did he do that?
And most importantly, how on earth did Aidan have such perfect features at his age?
Muscles, ridges, abs, and everything! Ugh!
Aidan must have thought that it was
the cold that had me shivering and was the cause of the goosebumps that covered every surface of my skin, both visible and hidden, but he was
wrong.
I was freaking melting under his gaze.
He must have thought that I was a slut with the way my nipples were practically begging for his strong hands to touch them.
Goddess.
The years of being single had finally caught up with r… in an embarrassing fashion.
“Abort mission, Tara. Abort! Aidan is unavailable territory, remember?” I warned, fanning myself as the car was suddenly smoking hot.
I managed to hide the blush that had grown on my cheeks and spread to my neck because within minutes, Aidan had arranged for the other residents to be sorted, and he was inside the car, driving now.
I wasn’t one hundred percent sure if Aidan was serious with what he said earlier, but I needed to confirm.

“Aidan, I don’t need a house,” I said, sounding like a whiny kid. with how much I’ve argued with Aidan in the last hour.
His eyes trained on me from the side mirror as he spoke and drove. “Where do you intend to sleep then? The leak is general, the cause hasn’t been found, so for the next few days, you won‘ t be able to get into that house. Where do you think you’ll stay, Tara?”
I stared at my fingers to distract myself from staring at his ripped muscles. The ones that were currently handling the wheel.
B.A.R.E.
In Riley’s words, it was hot.
I answered. “I’ll just go back and get all the things we need for the next few days, and I’ll make room at the diner. We should be okay.”
Aidan tsked.
“So you plan to sleep on the floor while I live comfortably in my suite.”
“You don’t need to buy a whole house because of that,” I balked, hands flailing in exasperation.
Aidan responded, his voice calmer and more soothing this time. “The suite wouldn’t be conducive for her, Tara. She needs a home. You need a home, and I will get you one. End of discussion, okay?”
My arguments left me. “I can’t ask that of you, Aidan,” I said.

“Then we’ll get it in my name if it makes you so uncomfortable. Are you happy now?”
“It’s still the same amount of money leaving your account, Aidan. Getting it in your name doesn’t really change that.”
As Aidan always did, he found a way to make light of the situation with his next words.
“You forget that I am a part of this pack now. I will need my own house eventually, so are you saying you want me to continue staying in that uncomfortable hotel room?”
I did not respond.
Aidan went on. “I was going to get a house soon, and now that you’re both in need of a place to stay, why not just do it now?”
Looking out the window and muttering under my breath, I spoke. “How am I going to pay back for this now?”
Aidan must have heard me since he responded back.
don’t
expect you to, Tara. I’ve been absent for the last eight years. plus, and you’ve done practically a hundred percent of everything by yourself. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what I owe you both. You do not pay back for anything.”
With a sigh, I remained quiet for the rest of the ride.
The sun was beginning to rise, so it was easy for Aidan to find a boutique for us to get a change of clothes.
Nadia was wide awake now, and so surprised that she didn’t find herself on her bed where she last remembered being last night.

She was also shocked to see Aidan, but happy all the same.
And when she found out that we were spending our entire morning in the boutique that Aidan had bought out for us, shopping for high–end clothes that we normally wouldn’t, you could say that Nadia wasn’t displeased with the fact that her sleep was disturbed.
I tried to be modest and only picked a dress and a pair of shoes that would keep me warm for the rest of the day, but Aidan didn‘ t hear of it.
He insisted I try at least twenty new dresses, and when I was dumb enough to say I couldn’t choose between two, he added the entire rack to the cart.
Aidan also helped Nadia choose new dresses, shoes,
sunglasses, earrings, and many more things than I could count.
A large part of me wanted to refuse Aidan’s kindness, but Nadia was so happy, and I compromised, saying that since she had barely experienced a type of fatherly love like this sir
birth, it was okay.
Just this once.

A voice popped up in my head and asked, “What about you?”
The thought distorted me for a second, and even when we exited the boutique with more shopping bags than I could count, I still hadn’t found an answer to the question.
