Chapter 1: Returned Ex
Evelyn’s POV
“I’m so glad you are here tonight, Leah. I love you,” Tristan said.
My husband—the Alpha of Blazewood Pack—held the beautiful blonde in his arms, planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
I froze.
The guests in the banquet hall stole glances at me, whispering and jeering.
“Is that Leah Middleton?” my maid Mandy gasped. “What’s she doing here?!”
My husband brought her. Obviously.
Tonight was the Full Moon Festival. We were supposed to attend as Alpha and Luna.
Instead, Tristan brought her.
Leah Middleton—Tristan’s high school sweetheart. Daughter of the Ironclaw Pack Alpha. They were the perfect couple… until she cheated and left him.
He met me a year later. We found out we were mates. We fell in love. I ran away from home and married into the Blazewood Pack, thinking…
We’re mates, blessed by the Moon Goddess. How bad could it be?
I was wrong.
First came the miscarriage. I lost our child during a business meeting. Tristan blamed me.
We adopted a sweet boy—Roman—to heal. But he couldn’t fix what was broken. Tristan grew cold.
Now Leah was back.
Was she here to take him from me?
I walked up to them, keeping my voice level. “Leah, you should leave. And stay away from my husband.”
Leah widened her eyes, looking to Tristan.
“Love… shall we tell her?”
My chest tightened. “Tell me what?”
Tristan looked at me coldly. “Leah will be staying here from now on.”
“What?! As what? Are you out of your mind?!”
Tears shimmered in Leah’s eyes. “I know you hate me, Evelyn. But Tristan didn’t do anything wrong… please don’t yell at him.”
“Do you mind? I’m talking to my husband!”
“Be nice to her!” Tristan barked.
“I won’t threaten your position,” Leah said gently. “You can still be Luna. All I want is to stay with Tristan… and my child.”
Child?
I couldn’t breathe. “What child?!”
They exchanged a look. Tristan finally said it.
“Roman is Leah’s and my son.”
No. No, that wasn’t true.
“But you said he was adopted! That he had no parents!”
Tristan frowned. “Would you have raised him if you knew?”
He sighed. “Leah couldn’t raise him at the time. So I brought him here. It was a harmless lie.”
A harmless lie?
I gave my heart to raise the child of the woman who slept with my husband. Now she’s here to take him—and Tristan—away.
“No, Tristan. I don’t want her here.” I tried to stay strong. “Send her away. Please. I’m asking you as your wife and Luna.”
“She stays,” he growled. “End of discussion.”
“If she stays… then you’re driving me away.”
He hesitated.
But then Leah started sobbing. “This is all my fault. I never meant to come between you two… I—I should go!”
She ran from the hall.
Tristan snapped his head toward me. “Now are you happy?!”
He ran after her.
I stood alone, trembling. He made his choice.
And it wasn’t me.
Guests whispered. No one comforted me. I wasn’t good enough for them. Just a girl from a small Northern pack.
“Luna Evelyn, are you okay?” Mandy asked gently.
“I… I need to lie down.”
I fled.
⸻
Later that night, I couldn’t sleep.
He was with her.
After crying for hours, I steeled myself and went to find Tristan.
I had to talk to him. Maybe we could fix this.
But the soldiers outside his room stopped me.
“The Alpha is busy,” they said coldly.
“Busy with what? He doesn’t have time for his wife?!”
“Alpha’s orders.”
Anger boiled in me. But before I could protest, a sharp pain tore through my body. I doubled over.
Betrayal pain. In the werewolf world, when your mate cheats, you feel it.
And worse—you see it.
Leah. Tristan. Naked. On our wedding bed.
Leah’s legs around his waist. His hands on her. Her moans. His growls.
“You’re amazing,” he panted. “Fuck… I love you.”
A sick feeling surged up.
I stumbled forward and vomited.
